Last two times I've ordered from Target and the item was actually out of stock, they offered to ship it for free. YMMV.

I have an external Blu-ray writer that I bought ages ago and never used even once. I just added an X1 Yoga to my Macs, so I may start using that for backups, but it's the size of a bus! May be I'll get this just for DVD backups that I haven't also done in years (have several external HDDs). My kids saw the cakes of DVDs in the basement recently and asked me what those were laugh out loud

You might already have a method to do it, but if not, look into freeware called exact audio copy. When it's set up, it retrieves album/song info for you and album art and rips the album into your format of choice (flac, etc). Often cheaper to buy a cd to end up with lossless digital than buy digital.

In all seriousness, it's better to at least get the widest-supporting drive, and get something which can at least PLAY 4k BDs.

DVD is the maligned middle-child of optical formats in 2022. No large audio library or nostalgic value like CDs, and no current-standard support like BD.
