Most folks in the know about audio would skip both synergy and reference, go straight to RP.
Now, that being said, audio is highly subjective, and you may like this. Best way to find out is to see if you can find somewhere you can audition them.

I used to be in the electronic business. I have never been a fan of Klipsch speakers. They sound too bright for my taste and these are at the very low end of the spectrum. One step above HTiB. The center speaker resembles a Logitech PC speaker.
At this same price range there are other options. eg...
Fluance Elite 5.1 [amazon.com] The set has gone down to $600 in the past.
Then if you can find them. The best Bang for your buck ever..
