It says the current price is $14.87 LOWER than the previous price.

I've never had a Cryo, but heard a lot of good things about it from those who do. List price of $68.99 is a joke. Blade steel is 8Cr13MoV, which Kershaw does a competent heat treat on in my experience. Buried in the Amazon ad specifications it says the country of origin is U.S., but this knife is absolutely made in China. 2.75" blade, framelock, SpeedSafe assisted opening, four position pocket clip, flipper tab and thumb studs, all-stainless build, solid little knife with very good reviews.

But the knife game is getting mighty competitive in the $30 range if you look at Ganzo, QSP, CRJB, and others.
The blackwash version is $28.18 for those who are interested.

Okay for the price. The spring in mine broke but Kershaw sent a replacement at no cost. I prefer thumb studs and holes over assisted opening so I don't carry it often.

Good knife. I purchased from an Amazon flash deal, for $8 in 2016. I wouldn't buy for $30

Any more specific recommendations for the $30 knives. I'd like something like the speedsafe assisted opening for quick one handed opening.

IMHO, these are great for the price (I'm preferential to the blackwash). Before I starting buying benchmades, I cycled between the cryo and cryo II pretty much every day for 6+ years. They're easy to sharpen, hold an edge well, and feel like a much more expensive knife. The Cryo/II may be the only pocket knife I've ever held where I liked the added weight (it's not heavy by any means, but it feels like a durable knife that can take some abuse).

The Cryo 2 is 5.5 oz. It is the heaviest pocket knife I have ever owned outside of a Buck 110 (a brick with a belt holster). If I have on basketball shorts, it tries to pull my pants down. I'm amazed you don't consider it heavy. I love having it in my car or for camping, but I literally never carry it because it is pretty close in feel to carrying a small .38 pistol. I would highly recommend most people look for 2-3 oz knives if they plan to carry them often.

Okay price nowadays I guess but meh knife. Bought one in 2013 but it's sat in a drawer since a few weeks after purchase when I got a USA Kershaw for $10 more. Not a huge fan of the shape either

Beware anything that they lie to try to make look better. "Cryo" is used to make people think this is higher quality steel with some special cryo treatment, which it is not. Just run of the mill cheap chinese steel that won't hold an edge for long. $10 knife at best.

I've had my for 5-6 years now and it's a decent knife but not worth $30. It's become my "knife I carry if I might lose it".

As an old geezer I struggle a bit with this entire discussion/market segment. Before fancier new folding blade knives, we referred to EDCs as pocket knives. They're wasn't a huge following because not much was expected from them. They were typically abused and not intended for skinning a bear. I have two questions. 1) What qualities are people looking for in an EDC? 2) How many cheap (under $50) EDCs should a person have?

Check out Opinel Knives as a serious contender. Most knife enthusiasts know of them as the go-to budget knife with the best blade quality. They are French, started up in 1890. They have sharp, long lasting, easy to maintain blades. Their only downside is a wooden handle with no clip. If you can get past that, you will not find a better blade for the price. I have had several over the past 5 years.
The only downside? How about two hands needed to open and close and that crazy ring lock that is more trouble than it is worth? The Opinel feels like a hundred year old peasant knife.

After hearing all the hype I bought one and ended up hating it.

I bought a Kershaw a while back on a slickdeal but I don't like the SpeedSafe Assisted Open. The knife it self is very nice and quality build but I about cut my thumb when I flicked it open the first time. All of a sudden my thumb was moving down the knife that was already fully open. I gave it away.

I've never had this problem, but I open it with my index finger on the back of the blade. Very easy for single handed operation.

I have a bunch of Kershaws and the Cryo is definitely up there with the best. Clean, simple, and easy.
