IPS = better color accuracy and response times
VA can be ideal for things like movies or darker backgrounds while IPS is generally better for all around and gaming due to faster response times. TN panels actually have the best response times for LCDs and why lots of high end gaming monitors are still TN. OLED gets you the best of all worlds at the expense of price and possible burn in.

I was told VA response time is negligible on Console gaming. Is this true?
Costco return policy is great on monitors, how is Amazon on dealing with monitor returns?
But sometimes they don't, and it seems like they're getting worse and worse about returns, especially if you've returned stuff previously or returning heavy things. A few weeks ago I bought a (new) portable air conditioner from them and they sent me a clearly used, re-packaged unit in an absolutely beat to hell box. I started the return, and they said I'll have to pay for return shipping myself - and, ever so graciously, they offered to reimburse as much as $3.99 of the return shipping cost. It was nearly $80 to return. Had to go back and forth with customer service to get them to cover the return cost - since they sent me a used/open box item despite it being sold as new - and had to ask CS to actually give me the refund, more than 2 weeks after their return center had already received it.
I used to praise Amazon for their return policy, but I always check other stores first now, especially stores that you can physically return stuff to (Best Buy, Walmart, Target, etc). Looks like Amazon is going the way of Newegg - profits first, and if they can get away with scamming a customer, they do it.

Doubtful but why not give it a shot. It's a perfectly legitimate reason to return it. Don't know where you bought it from but they will definitely be more willing to help you if you're buying another display from them

Getting a quality VA/IPS panel makes a bigger difference between the 2. A high quality VA panel will have better response times (negligible) vs a low quality IPS panel and vice versa. Most TN panels will have the absolute best response times for an LCD but everything else suffers as a result (poor viewing angles and color accuracy).
Also, any advice as to whether this VA or the IPS version of this monitor (34WQ60C-B) on sale at buydig for $350 would be better for productivity (mainly office and browsing) and entertainment (primarily movies). The viewing angles and color vibrancy of the IPS or the contrast, blacks and refresh of the VA? Thanks.
biggest difference I see is 8 vs 10 bit... and I am not sure if 10 bit even matters for video games and average usage
The LG 34WP65C boasts a 34-inch VA panel with a 3440 x 1440 resolution, a 160Hz refresh rate, and a 1ms boosted response time. The backlight has a 300 cd/m2 rating, while the contrast ratio is listed at 3000:1 like most VA monitors. This model has a 1800r curve and HDR10 compatibility.
Seems the AOC has the same 300/3000:1 specs but with a 1500r curve
Anyone know what the HDR specs look like on the AOC, they dont advertise much about that aspect or if its even HDR10 capable?

These guys seem to think the brightness and contrast is more impressive on the LG than other monitors, but the color range isnt as impressive as the AOC...
This one is a tough decision!

Absolutely. I have the same decision to make. I have both monitors currently plugged in and honestly I realized I am not a monitor nerd by any means. Both looked great by itself. Next to each other results depends on how you setup the colors, brightness and contrast.
My use case are work/casual gaming. Love the ultrawide split screen utilization of space.
-No speakers in either of them.
-AOC has great adjustments, height/tilt etc which I really like. No height adjustment on LG.
-subtle Red accents on AOC for the "gamer" look.
- the menu is so much easier and refined on LG. The buttons interface on AOC isn't the very user friendly.
Let me know if any body wants any specific comparisons

Do you have any input on the 8bit vs 10bit difference between the two?

I tested with some calibrations suggestions on Reddit. The AOC out of the box seemed pretty decent, and looked very comparable to LG after the settings. Very hard to pick between the two. If you don't need Height adjustment, then LG is the winner here bumping AOC with better price and slightly better display colors and UI.
AoC also has a USB hub if your are interested in it, but i feel it very cumbersome to plug anything to the monitor. I'd rather just plug it to PC/laptop.
Ps: I tested LG in one of the presets called HDR effect mode. That one has the best picture Overall. Other modes aren't as good.
