I'm going to be getting in on one of the great OLED TV deals very soon, and wanted a great UHD Blu-ray player with Dolby Vision to match. I checked Amazon and $400 seems like a great price for this player, so I picked one up.

You value pure convenience. That's great! It comes at the cost of many things that others may appreciate, including video quality, having a library of media to share with others, the joy of collecting, and even the ability to watch whenever you want media that may not always be available to you. For instance, I enjoy the original Star Wars without the changes. I'll pop in my theatrical DVD. Many years ago I enjoyed this silly show called Nowhere man. It's only available on DVD too, which I conveniently have. You will not find it streaming in the foreseeable future.
You opine at the cost as not slick because again, you're not appreciative of the medium. I will agree it's expensive, and I will even agree this is not the lowest this player has been. However, sometimes people are willing to pay a premium for something a little different, and maybe a little better.
There are those who still play old video games of their childhood and will spend thousands to RGB modify it and maybe get niche devices like a Retrotink5X to scale and sharpen in, or even by a CRT monitor to enjoy it as they did exactly as they did when they were children. Sure, they could play some of the games on the Nintendo switch's paid library of limited games, quite conveniently, but with more lag, but over all it's a different experience, again.
Some of us appreciate different things - no need to compare or condescend. This thread is simply is not for you.

It's not necessarily 10x better lol. A lot of things still matter such as calibrating your TV. The player can only push for better visuals if your TV is right, but it's also still dependent on the source of the material being played. You could get the best speakers and receiver but your sound/music sucks because you're playing an AAC or 128kbps mp3 instead of 320kbps, FLAC or actual CD/vinyl. So if the mp3 was just a cheap quality 128kbps download, then a Playstation 1 will sound similar to a $350 dedicated cd player from back in the year 2000.

I had my PS5 set up to handle the Dolby Atmos track of Lord of the Rings and played a few scenes, then the same on the UB820. Quiet dialogue from the center channel speaker was the most improved. Gandalf muttering "You didn't think I'd miss your Uncle Bilbo's birthday" was somewhat difficult to make out on the PS5, but on the UB820, it was crystal clear and perfectly audible. It wasn't any louder-- it was just better. Other things were improved too, but that was the starkest example.
To clarify this is better than the PS5 with all 3 disc formats but nowhere near 10x better.
That's why people say if you have any interest in gaming the consoles are probably worth the compromise.
The sound with streaming is the major drop in quality but it's not really because of the player, it's more from the quality of your speakers & setup.
That's why people with soundbars don't really here a big difference and it's worth the compromise there also for them.

Are you using a receiver with a speakers/sub setup or just a soundbar? When you get your OLED, make sure to look online on how to calibrate it. Just the TV alone should make a huge difference without changing players. The only thing with the LG OLEDs is they work best on dark rooms and any windows/reflective lighting will diminish viewing. But the LG OLED has infinite contrast and you'll definitely see it clearly after calibrating your TV. Darks are really dark but you can see brightness under the same scene. Imagine one of the fight scenes in Dare Devil season 1 where the bottom of the stairs is really dark that you can't see anything under them, but at the same time the overhead light fixture is brightly shining. Dolby Vision will just exaggerate light sources like torches/braziers.
I saw the previous deal listed it as $329 from BH Photo or some other online vendor. I think part of the reason is because of inflation, but this player is for the specific set of consumers who use high end audio and video equipment which probably also means people with higher disposable income.
Yes, I have a 5.2 setup with an Onkyo receiver that downmixes the Dolby Atmos track to the 5 channels. JBL 590s for L/R fronts and an Infinity Reference RC623 center (and a couple Infinity Reference bookshelves for rears). Audio system stayed the same with same settings between tests, the only variable was the PS5 handling the Dolby Atmos track vs the UB820 handling the same. It wasn't even something I was listening for, I was looking at the video, but the difference in audio quality stood out so much I couldn't help but notice.
I'm greatly looking forward to the OLED and yep, I'll calibrate the crap out of it when it arrives! I have total control of the room lighting, so it should work well.

I'm surprised your center channel doesn't match your fronts. Normally you want those to match because of timing.

If you are not using/running an object based setup you will just get the core codec.
I assume the Samsung is a UHD display.
If so and it's not OLED try setting the HDR type to either high or low luminance depending on which model you have.
I would also suggest turning on SDR/HDR conversion, for most HDR content that should be a benefit.
Since all transfers are different I would suggest trying a few.
I would also suggest seeing what you think of the comparison with the other two disc formats(BD and dvd).
Those transfers are not all the same either so might want to try a few.
