I've been reading all the reviews for these Gateway deals and the consistent theme is poor build quality. Broken case, display, screen, trackpad, keyboard within a few months. I guess if you use it like a desktop it's a great deal, but if you use it like a portable it'll break.

are all the screens just falling apart? anyone have real world experience?

im in the market for a home pc with light browsing and google photos, MAYBE very light gaming or emulators

I'm having good experience with Gateway from Walmart for the last 1.5 years. I bought 2 gateways with RTX 2060 for my daughter and myself, and we've been with them so far (Fan is a little noisy). I'm not playing games, but my daughter is playing

bought one a few months ago and it has been fine. The keyboard is very clicky, doesn't have a real quality feel. as noted by others. plugged into a keyboard and monitor it runs like a champ. i would not lug it around in a backpack. A lot of computer for the money, and missing all of the little design touches

The i5 scores better on CPU benchmarks throughout and looks stronger on GPU a bit as well. It also comes with 16GB of ram, so I'd say it's a better deal. Especially now since the grey is sold out and that blue is hideous, while the i5 is available in black still. Plus if you don't need the number pad the 14" version of the i5 is only $280

Wait a Ryzen 7 is comparable to an i5? I thought Ryzen 3,5,7 were the AMD versions of i3, i5, i7, respectfully.

They are, it's just that this ryzen 7 is a generation older and it's a mobile specific processor.

I'd say our gateway laptop was running like a champ, but the other day I accidentally spilled maybe 1ml of water over the keyboard and the whole computer glitched into a boot loop and won't turn on anymore. I've spilled whole drinks on older laptops before and this was interesting, lol other then that, for the price, very worth it.
