I'm interested in buying one, but have few concerns.
1) Foam ear tips. How does it compare with common silicon ear tips? How long will foam last? As far as I know, Sony does not sell replacement ear tips.
2) No default volume control. Apparently, you can add it via app by replacing Playback or ANC controls. Why not to keep all and allow more custom settings? This is strictly software/firmware issue. It does not make sense.
3) Complaints about fast battery drain and overheating.
a. Firmware 1.4.2 may be responsible for permanent battery damage. Sony is offering free replacement. Reddit Discussion. [reddit.com] dmx0 post
b. Some reviews say turning off voice assistant fixes the problem. https://youtu.be/_JmAZhAiz4I

Which is better?
- Sony WF-1000XM4
- Sony LinkBuds S
- Apple AirPods Pro 2
- Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3
- Bose QuietComfort Earbuds II
- or something else

I would like to get quality Earbuds that last more than 13 months.

Please, share your experience.

FYI there is a huge battery drain issue with this model. I'd personally avoid.

Not sure why "Industry Leading" was added to the title, I did not write it.
If you posted from the app it probably auto-populated the title based on Sony's listing (don't quote me on that - I'm just the videographer haha)

Why would you need or want Alexa built into your ear buds?
Good point. It's not for everyone.

Thanks OP. I picked them up Best Buy. This is a hell of a deal.

However, I think the delivery driver might have stolen mine. Best Buy used shipt to deliver and it's been 6 hours and we still haven't received them. 🤣

I picked them up despite this so we'll see how that pays off.

Running theory is that firmware 1.4.2 and slightly earlier may be related allowing the buds to overheat while charging and even in use. New buds are shipping with 1.5.0 pre-installed, but this has not been released OTA yet to older buds and may or may not fix the issue. It seems that once damage is done it becomes irreversible as old buds with battery drain do not spontaneously resolve on 1.5.0. Other theories include a bad batch of batteries from Sony's supplier in the earlier models. Battery replacement in each bud is possible and has been shown to correct the issue. It requires heating and splitting the case, though. Sony has been replacing affected buds outside the warranty period as it's a known issue at this point. Typically the issue presents as relatively sudden unequal battery drain between the buds and dramatic reduction in playback duration/overheating. From most accounts issues started to present around 12-14 months from purchase and/or once updating to firmware 1.4.2.

I've tried Bose , AirPods and Sony . Here my take
1. Bose is the king in ANC if you're looking for ANC in specific. It's bulky i don't like the design .
2. I'd rate AirPods 2 than Sony in the second spot. Better anc and eco system support .
3. Sony - I like the way it's communicating when the mode is switching . It's not louder than other two .
Yea not correct. Sony xm4 ANC is better than bose QC bud I ANC. I don't know about bose QCII buds ANC. I can't speak for the airpods either.

Air pods pro 2 Al have better noise cancellation and are more comfortable
But ANC was downgraded on the firmware due to the Apple lawsuit so I thought people weren't recommending the AirPods Pro 2 anymore?

Mine also fall out easily. Also, constantly losing connection with my Pixel 6a (in my pocket, possibly certified refurb is culprit), but no one else seems to be experiencing the same disconnect problem. I prefer my cheap off-brand earbuds
My bad. Not disconnecting. It was the "adaptive" NC. Turned that off now all good.

Can you share which other silicone tips you got that worked well for you? What did you not like about the foam tips? Sizing just was not right for your ears? Thanks.
I bought these: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/produ...UTF8&psc=1

The foam tips put too much pressure on my ears and would cause them to hurt after an hour or so of use. With the silicone tips I use the earbuds all day with no problem. Good luck and sorry for the very late reply!

I see. No worries about the late reply. Thanks for the tip/suggestion! The tips you linked to look pretty good and worth a try (good reviews and good price). I would not have known about these otherwise, so I appreciate the followup! Smilie

I've never experienced this issue over a year and about 4 hrs use per day.

Also, I have had them fly out of my ear while cycling and although a little scratched, they lived through the ordeal.
