You can put a $155 5600X into a $145 X570 board and have a $120 cooler and it's going to perform 2-3% faster than a $120 5600 in a $45 A320M board with the free stock cooler.
If you manually overclock/tweak the hell out of a 5600x and leave the 5600 stock, you might be able to get 10-12% more performance in certain workloads. None of these chips have a ton of overhead.
Or put your money toward a 5700x ($175 at MC right now) or 5800x, B550 and a cheap/stock cooler for $300 and have way more performance than the tweaked out $400 5600 setup.
I have an old workstation with Nvidia Quadro 600 card. Will this card work as a stop gap on a B550M motherboard?
I don't intend to play games with it till I get a better card. Its enough if it is compatible and runs a monitor.
Debating if it's worth upgrading from a 3600 to this. This will certainly be the last cpu I'd use on this platform. Unless I found steal of a deal on a 5800x3d down the road.

I don't know if you'll be able to find drivers that work with Windows 10 or 11, but from a hardware perspective, I think it will be fine.

It's a pretty significant upgrade. I'd say worth it if you do CPU bound tasks.
That said, if you're gaming and aren't in any rush you might want to wait till spring. When the new X3D boards come out the 5800X3D should see another drop. Only thing is, every gamer on AM4 will probably want one, so demand is likely to stay high. Lowers the odds of really killer deals.

yeah but think of it being binned with a label; can sustain or factory boost higher without OC from user

I see Ryzen™ 7 5700X at $235 - B550M is $120 and another $40 for a decent cooler or $395
About the same, but like you said allot more powerful.
Is this it for my upgrade? The R7 1700 is still working fine but loading page is kind of lagging. Wondering if Amazon is offering the same deal.
Been running my 5600 since July when it went on sale for $144. It worked great on my B350 after replacing my old 1700. The difference in general and in gaming is great when coupling the 5600 with 3600MHz RAM.
I've been holding the line for a good price on a RX 6800 or greater to replace my old RX 480.

That also my plan as well and I have a 650w EVGA G2 unit. Amazon has the Red Dragon 6800 for $470 or AsRock 6800xt $515 after rebate.
What is your RAM kit?

And here I thought I was alone in still running my R7 1700 for this long. That processor was probably the best choice for hardware I've made in a long, long time. Along those lines (longevity), I think I might stretch for the 5700X if it drops for BF but am not sure that I want to spend the money right now, especially since the processor upgrade will beg, in my mind anyway, for a new video card to replace the RX590 that I'm using.

Anyone think this will go lower for BF?
