I have this model and have freezing issues with 4k discs. Regular blu-rays play fine, 4k disc don't. Mine will play about 30min of the movie then will freeze shortly. Continue to play flawlessly for the next 25 min, then will freeze again. It froze 4-5 times watching top gun maverick.

The problem is that 4K content is huge and the 4K content that you are streaming is compressed. Like REALLY compressed. You aren't getting the great sound of 4K media, and the visuals won't match what you will see with a 4K UHD disc. If you have a $1,000+ 4K TV and you are using 4K streaming content... you don't really care about the quality that you are receiving at your TV.

This may be a good alternative compared to the highly rated Panasonic 820 compared to the cost difference.

Keep in mind with this player you need to manually turn on & off DV.
For the price I'm not sure most people will be bothered enough for the price difference.

I got this a few years back for $99.99 I don't think you have to do that anymore I think it had an update.I don't turn it on and my films play on DV

I texted two people that own this and both don't think that's the case.

Looking at Sony's FAQ's doesn't look like it either:

That happened to me also and got tired of it. Main reason I switched with no such issues anymore!

Making sure you have the latest update and having to clean the disc every time helped a little.

It seems to be hit and miss though, others say they don't have the issue or at least not as often.

What I hate about the DV switch, is that when you play a regular bluray, it plays it with a DV signal, I have settings for a DV picture, and a SDR bluray picture and the toggle messes with my picture preferences. So I leave it on HDR most of the time, unless its a brand new movie I watch the first time I'll turn on the DV

I grabbed this player the last time Target had it for ~$120.
No issues and as a bonus, plays SACDs, which I needed.

Yes, you have to turn on DV manually (or leave it on all the time).

Ive had no issues with dozens and dozens of 4k discs until Top Gun Maverick froze with about 20 minutes left in the movie. The lone time ive had a freeze

Many people had this issue (including me); it's probably due to a layer change on the disc.
