One thing I would note is that while the M50x are fine headphones, they used to have a certain radical following and times have passed them by. For less money you can often get better sounding headphones. Especially in the open back category. The HD560s are about the same money and have a much better sound.
Don't know if makes any sense to compare these closed backs to any open back, but since you started, good luck finding the HD 560S for this price. However the HD 599 which sound great and a lot like the 560S, are currently on sale for $90.

If you need closed back, i.e. noise isolation for commuting or noisy home, the M50x are good at $100,
If you can listen in a quiet environment, then the HD 599 sound better to my ears, they're $10 less, and you'll get a bigger sound stage, so they'd be good for gaming, although I only listen to music on them.
Not sure what I'd recommend over the M50x at $100 as far as closed backs. The AKG K361? They were $80 on Amazon recently, they've gone up but are still under $100,

BTW, the Audio Technicas sound bad to me out of the box, but sounded much better after they" burn in", i.e. after about 20+ hours of use. So don't be too quick to judge if you get them.

Yeah, they've been around for a while now. I got them $100 about 15 years ago. They lasted for a long time. I had to get a new pair of headphones because of the amount of time I wear headphones. I was getting ear fatigue with them. Also it can get hot too. Again, if you wear headphones for hours at a time.

My friend has these, I got the MDR7506's instead for an un-colored sound. These are heavier bass and may not accurately represent what you're listening to.

Thats a good price, its a shame the earpads wear out after a year or two. And all the aftermarket ones I've tried significantly alter sound quality/profile and remove most of the bass.

My HD 560S cans went straight back. The stage was muddied in the mid-range and I couldn't take it. And my kiddo had the m50x, which I'd prefer.

In for one. More than ten years ago, I asked my good friend to bring the M50 back to my home country from the United States, because it is much cheaper in the US. Now we are no longer friends anymore, and I have lived in the US for many years, but I still remember how amazed I was when I received the headphones.

Great headphones, only problem is I've owned two pairs, black and brown, both of them, after two years. The leather ear pads and the headband strip, all deteriorated and peeled off and the headphones look like trash now. Very poor quality bonded leather. Kind of sucks. They look absolutely abysmal now.

Ironically the X2HR was what I upgraded to from that comment above.

Have had a set for many years. Can confirm that they met all my needs for closed back headphones, but they are a bit sweaty and the bonded leather lasts about a year of regular use before self destructing.

These and some Senn 555s were my first audiophile cans. The 555s are still in better shape despite being all plastic and suffering some cracks.

Wow good find! The head band on my original M50 is falling apart bad and I thought about a getting new set for replacement. I'll just get these instead. Thanks!
