Correct, the router cannot be configured as a satellite. However you can buy additional satellites to extend the system up to that model's limit, usually 3 or 4. So OPs bundle comes with one router and one sat. You can then add up to three additional sats.

Do orbi satellites play nice with other Orbi models? I have the RBS50 model satellites and I'm hoping to upgrade my system for my new home and I'm looking for something compatible with these.

this deal is dead, but it...
Looked like an awesome deal for those who are on a tight budget and for what you get for under $100.
I went for the higher model (sxk50) at double the cost >> $199.99 >> https://slickdeals.net/f/16197469-netgear-sxk50-orbi-pro-wifi-6-ax5400-router-satellite-200-more-free-shipping?src=SiteSearch (that deal is currently a fair price at $280, but it's no longer $199)

That one should be faster ax5400 vs ax1800, triband vs dual band, but I might have gone with this too since it also comes with 2 satellites at half the price.

This was a good week for deals on this stuff, since there is currently another deal on SXK80 for $245 >>https://slickdeals.net/f/16209712-2-piece-netgear-orbi-pro-sxk80-ax6000-tri-band-gigabit-mesh-wifi-system-245-free-shipping

and there was a past $205 deal on rbk752

Two things stood out when looking at the specs. The satellite max speed is 300mbps. Is that true? And the other is that this has a max connectivity of 40 devices. If that's correct, that would not work for me. Between smart TV's, phones, tablets, security cameras, smart outlets and bulbs and what not, I'm pretty sure my household has more than 40 devices. If it was 40 per unit, that would make it 80. That would probably work. But I can't tell from the description.
I don't know if the satellite max speed is 300mbps or not but when I tested the speed. The max was 80mbps. I'm using xfinity 1gbps.
