I own both of these. If I was starting out, I'd recommend the HD 6xx hands down. The HD 660S is not twice as good at twice the price. If you think it's better - and that's a big if - it's maybe 10-20% better.
So they're both great, they are different, better vs worse is highly debatable, the HD 6xx is the better value even with the HD 660S on sale. Most of the negative press for the HD 660S is with respect to the cost. If they were the same price it would be a much different narrative.
