AppleCare is worth it if you plan on taking it out of the house. One drop pays for itself.
It's great peace of mind for two years of coverage at the cost of a cup of coffee/month. Kind of hard to beat but like all insurance, only useful if and when you have to use it.

And add in the other stuff

Extra 64 gb storage base
Thunderbolt USB port
Better audio recording for video

$399 for the M1 iPad Air is nothing to sneeze at of course and would be a comparable value but all these extras (storage, ProMotion, Thunderbolt, FaceID) is well worth another $150

100% agree.. well worth it for me, too. But I completely understand that $150 might not be for some people. with that you could buy a case or two and the apple pencil. if I had the option to buy just the pro ipad or the air + case + pencil for someone.. I'd probably go the latter. I could 100% live w/o the extra storage and pro-motion. thunderbolt isn't overkill for most users. faceID is a luxury and it just comes down to getting used to using that fingerprint sensor on the side.

all that said, if ipadOS wasn't so restrictive/trash (for more powerusers/pros and not just casuals) and could take advantage of the thunderbolt speeds with a proper file system and actually make the m1 chip useful with a more desktop like experience with the OS or even just apps (like how samsung does with their OS and DEX)

*miniLED .. apple does not use micro LED

microLED is much better and more expensive

I have both a miniLED ipad and a regular.. when using in actual real world stuff.. it doesn't matter.. both are great screens. tbh.. the MINI led is actually more annoying when watching certain dark content due to bloom. But most content doesn't suffer too badly. I can't remember what it was.. but it was a show and there was a dark scene and the mini LED completely ruined it because it was blooming so badly I couldn't make out the areas of the scene that had more brightness. But most of the time, if you're not watching dark content, the mini led does look very nice. "black levels" are only good if the content isn't completely ruined by the bloom
Fair point. For me, I really like the Mini LED screen, but the form factor isn't ideal to take advantage of that tech for media consumption. I prefer the 11" size instead. Hopefully, Apple will improve its Mini LED screens to combat blooming.

Are those better than the Zugu case everyone here is referring to?
I couldn't say from personal experience but from reviews, they are about the same on quality. Depending on the models being compared, features would obviously differ.

And that too for only those who got Air 5th for 400 with no tax.
Other than that, best Air 5 deal for general public is 64GB for $500 which makes this m1 pro 11 3rd Gen much better option for only $50 more!!

This or iPad Air 11", 5th Gen for $399 (military only and expired deal)? I was able to get the Air from the Armed Forces Exchange sale earlier this week.

I used this comparison [apple.com] and I see almost no differences between the 5th Gen Air and this 3rd gen Pro...
Not much difference in the spec but you have to remember apple does restrict certain features of ipadOS to the pro models

I don't think there are any "Pro" restricted features. However there are M1/M2 vs. Axx features.

You missed out by not getting the M2 Pro 11 for $600. I did and returned my $600 M1.

For those wondering, M2 battery drains faster than the M1.

M1 Air for $400 for vets and members of the service? That's a terrific deal. $500 for the Air 5 isn't bad, still $100 off, but that 64gb storage is too paltry, especially as that price point.

I'd gladly choose the Pro at $550 over the Air at $500.
