These WIFI extenders are trash. Always dropping connection, and to fix it you have to reboot them. Go for mesh devices such as eero, netgear, Google etc
Do not buy this omg people. These were garbage 10 years ago and still are today.
People hate on these, but they do have a use case. Not great for getting signal in devices that move around, but things that stay in the same location but are out of reach this can be helpful (e.g. smart TVs, smart home devices).

These are garbage even in those situations. Ridiculously slow and laggy. Almost non-functional. I've tried extending two different homes with these and they fall miserably. Smart tv? Buffer endlessly. Alexa? Sorry, I can't connect right now! Do yourself a favor and buy a basic mesh network. Here's a ridiculously cheap name brand one with three satellites for $69 after WOWFRESH coupon. Cheaper than some people pay for a month of internet.

These will bottle neck your connection to that part of your home.

This can be handy if you upgrade your router beyond the capabilities of your smart devices. I upgraded my router to wifi 6 and quickly realized how many devices were not capable of running on a a wifi 6 network. Specifically my "smart" garage door opener, and wireless printer and some older smart phones. I've had this device for years, and it finally came in handy to comunícate wirelessly with a handful of older devices. Probably not idea to extend a signal for high bandwidth uses, but it's a cheap secondary network solution.

I use one with OpenWrt on it to connect my Smartthings hub to my WiFi. If you don't need speed but basic connectivity these will work.

Works to connect a detached garage opener. All products have a limit and perhaps this is simply to extend the range on low data drawing devices. I'm sure mesh products would work for much more. What do you expect for sub $20?

This is because all extenders use half the bandwidth to communicate back to the main router so it only has half the bandwidth to communicate with the clients. If you run an ethernet cable and use this as an access point, your speed won't drop.
We have a Netgear EX6150v2 and use it as an access point. It is connected via ethernet cable to our router. While researching on cost effective ways to get better wifi reception I did come across statements about the speed being halved and how it was better to use it as an access point. We did exactly that and now I get decent wifi AC speeds. I do not recall any issues with the EX6150v2 since getting it setup and running. It has extended the range of our internet to the opposite end of the house so we are good with it! Best of all it cost less than $20.

Works perfectly to connect camera outside front door.
There seems to be a lot of hate for these, but I use one to reach a camera that's just outside the reach of my mesh network and it's been solid since day one.

can't agree enough. I have a few of these Netgear ones and they all have constant connectivity issues.

This is a great deal for what it is. All the crying about them being trash is BS. This is borderline outdated tech, but I will tell you what it's good for and why it's a good deal. I have one of these and it serves a simple purchase, It's directly next to my garage. It ensures a clean connection to my garage doors, shop Roku and Ring Garage cameras.

I would not use this for high data or fast data, it's a cheap stable way to extend coverage in a limited range.

I have one of these and it's good for what I needed it for, but it's obviously not a replacement for buying a better router with a wider range. It's not trash if you know it's limits and just need it to reach devices just out of range, or to connect devices with no wifi to the Ethernet port.

Thanks for the info, I wasn't aware of that. But according to the documentation this particular model can't be used with ethernet.

"Can I connect the extender to the router with an Ethernet cable?
No. The extender is designed to connect wirelessly to the router or access point."

https://www.downloads.netgear.com..._EN.pdf

Sorry for the late response, but I found this thread again.
According to this answer (https://forum.archive.openwrt.org...p?id=69040), it's not impossible, but it requires flashing a non-stock firmware.
