Row machine is also the same price. Wish there was a deal on an elliptical machine.

No, it has standard pedals with a cage on one side if you wish to strap in. It does not come with "clip-less" pedals but can easily be swapped out with any pedals if you wish. I put a old pair of mtn bike pedals in mine and wear some old skateboard shoes.

Time to pull out my annual Echelon to Peloton post. I did all the research in 2020 and put together what you need to do after buying this bike. Reposting it here:

Required items you'll need:
  • Echelon bike [walmart.com]
  • Peloton app [onepeloton.com]
  • Peloton subscription (Note, if you have a friend who has a bike subscription [not just app] you can ask if they'll create an account for you instead to save some money)
  • Two streaming devices
One to connect to the Echelon app [echelonfit.com] to display your statistics, usually a phone
One to connect to the Peloton app to display the classes, usually a tablet
Optional add-ons to improve the experience
  • Wahoo cadence sensor [amazon.com] - iOS support only - this attaches to your bike's gearshaft and can be connected to the Peloton app to integrate your cadence. You'll already be getting cadence information from the Echelon app on your phone, but if you want it to display in the Peloton app, you'll need this too.

  • Polar Verity heart rate sensor [amazon.com] - this wraps around your arm and can provide heart rate data to the Peloton app. Instructors will mention heart rate zones to target in advanced classes, so if you want to be able to follow along you'll need this, but it's not required. You will also get more accurate calorie burn counts with your heart rate being measured.

Note: If you are an iOS user and have an Apple Watch, install the Peloton Watch App. It will ping you when your class starts and use your watch as a heart rate monitor.

  • Bicycle mat [amazon.com] - The official Echelon mat is 27"x47", so this should fit underneath it to catch your sweat and protect your carpet/hardwood floor.
  • 1-3lb dumbbells [amazon.com] - In some classes, the instructor will tell you to do some lifts, so you'll need a set of light weights
  • Peloton to Echelon resistance chart [etsy.com] - The instructor will call out numbers to change your bicycle resistance during the class, but the Echelon uses a different scale so you can print this out or buy one to have as a handy reference.
  • Gel bicycle seat cover [amazon.com] - If you are gonna be spinning for a long time, the gel will help ease any pain you have in your backside

To get the baseline experience done, you'll need to setup your Echelon bike as described in the manual. After physical setup is complete, download the Echelon app to your phone, and then plug in your bike and start the pairing process.

Next, if you bought either of the optional sensors you'll need to pair them with their various ipad/android tablet apps to update their firmware.

Once paired, to get your Echelon app into freestyle mode to display your statistics, go to the bottom right of the app, select "More", then "Freestyle Ride".

Finally, you will then be able to load the Peloton app on your tablet, select a class, and start going.

Note: Since this model has a screen integrated, you might not need to download the Echelon app and use your phone for your riding statistics. I can't confirm as I own the previous model that had no screen, but sure looks that way.

Can I use this bike for simple timed cardio? I could care less about Pelaton or storing stats but do want to be able to see simple readouts on the screen. Is that possible? I dont want to have the screen for absolutely no reason. Also, can the screen/system be manipulated/jailbroken/updated to use other apps like Youtube? If not can it at least be used like a normal exercise bike console?

I remember this post from last year...thanks for posting again!

I'll add to this since I got the Connect Sport back then and bought a few things to make it better...I did purchase the gel seat, mat, and heart rate sensor you mentioned. I skipped the cadence sensor and just used the built in Echelon app in freestyle mode.

ITEMS I PURCHASED TO CONVERT CONNECT SPORT TO SPD PEDALS AND SHOES:

Echelon SPD compatible pedals with toe cages [amazon.com]

SPD Cycling shoes [amazon.com]

SPD Clips for the shoes I bought... [amazon.com]

Those 3 things transformed the bike for me. I was a noob and never owned a bike before...and going 3 months with just normal shoes and moving to SPD shoes was big for me. It made the workouts better all around...

Agree with this and other comments about adding SPD shoes. FYI customer service sent me a free pair of SPD pedals just by asking. I had to get cleats so ended up getting a cheaper SPD pedal for my outdoor bike that came with cleats since I was going to have to buy them anyway.

One major item missing here is the qdomyos-zwift app. It will convert Echelon resistance to Peloton resistance on the fly and has been very handy. Also shows way more metrics and NO ADs compared to the Echelon app. I have bought less apps than I can count on one hand but was happy to purchase this one. You are spending $300 on the bike, spend the extra $3 on the app. Also, if you are on the fence about membership costs even at $12, the Peloton trial can currently be pretty easily recycled if you are ok with losing stats.

I purchased this bike a few years ago and think it is amazing! I use the Peloton App on a smart tv, a cheap samsung tablet on the bike and then bought a stick on conversion chart for Peloton-Echelon numbers off of Etsy. It's perfect, quiet, always connects to the tablet and is WAY less expensive than purchasing a Peloton. Have had zero problems.

I bought this almost 2 years ago at $500 and it still works great. The seat is a lil uncomfortable but you can change it out with something softer

I have my road bike on a cycle Ops fluid trainer (non smart) and bought a cadence and speed sensor. Any reason to go with. A bike like this if I won't use the paid echelon classes? I know I don't get power meter currently but speed and cadence is really all I need.
