the side of the lock with the batteries is probably not made to be used outside so you "can" use it, but probably should not.
I got one of these last summer for $17. It is still working fine on the original set of batteries.

Mine lasted longer and I'm pretty sure it notified me when it had low batteries so maybe it was a newer model.
The lock itself will notify me but not the keypad.

Any insight on how to rekey the lock so 2 bolts can have the same key?
If you are handy, it is trivial to do yourself. Watch a couple Youtube videos to see if it is within your abilities. If so, you can buy a decent rekeying kit for about what it costs to have a locksmith do it. But I'd spend a little more for something like this or bigger:

For most people, that kit will last them the rest of their lives, or they can make some side cash rekeying doors for friends.

you buy the Kwikset version of this that you can rekey yourself. You will end up paying a lot less than if you bought this + paid a locksmith

It works well. However, the installation was a pain because my door sag a bit so the hole doesn't line up perfectly. I had to make all kind of adjustments for it to work.

Does this work on metal screen doors?

This one won't work on metal screen door. I've been looking for deadbolt that is compatible with metal screen door but havn't had any luck. Let me know if you are able to find one. Your best bet may be the doorknob type. Thanks.

I use the august lock on my metal security door. No keypad but can open via app or add to apple home and open that way.
