Even better to buy $250 gift card and get $25 on Amex and use another card that has 5% cashback to pay the balance to maximize savings
Just a heads up with Amazon…only buy an iPad if you're 100% sure you want to keep. I bought an iPad from Amazon that I wanted to return. They won't let you take it to Kohls or UPS to return. Amazon had to schedule a UPS pickup from my house. Then they require you to wait up to 30 days before issuing a refund since they have to inspect it due to being a high ticket item. They received the iPad I returned on 11/14 and still no refund. I never even removed the seal from the iPad box. For me it's a lesson learned to avoid Amazon when it comes to Apple products.
Someone here on Slickdeals commented the same thing before and I thought it was just that person or they were exaggerating. Nope. According to the multiple Amazon reps I spoke with this is standard practice for Apple products.

Man this is so tempting. Open box 256gb is $654 with tax - $25 amex deal - 5% of $404 Paypal (if bought $250 BB gift card to get the amex $25) = around $580 total.
What do you mean by "5% of $404"? Sorry I'm a slick deal noob

In for 1 for xmas present. Trading in a slightly wonky 6th gen for $100. Lame that trade in forces the transaction to be pick up only.

I ended up buying an open box for around $450. I bought the Walmart deal for the 4th gen but I'd rather pay an extra $100 for the M1 for future proofing and extra features. Thanks for posting.
Not sure how much "future proofing" the 64GB 5 is over the 4 since the 64GB 5 doesn't get the "virtual memory swap" in iOS 16 that the 256GB model gets. I think that's going to be as important in the future as the M1 processor because even if an app is M1 optimized, it will likely also have a greater RAM needs to run at peak performance.

I bought a 64GB Air 5 well before the iOS 16 announcement and later revelation that it wouldn't get the "virtual memory swap," and, honestly I'm a bit toasted about it, but it's not my main iPad so not a huge deal for me either. But if you want to future proof you'll want the 256GB model. Otherwise keep your Air 4 and $100 in your pocket.

Huge difference between M1and A14. Also 5th gen has double the ram of Air 4. So it's better to return and buy this one
Thanks, went with my instincts and ordered prior to your response. Appreciate the feedback. 😀

Thanks for the insight. This wouldn't be my main iPad since I use my mini 256 for most portable tasks. This would just be used for tasks that need a bigger screen and keyboard. I also wanted to check out stage manager, although I haven't heard anything great about it in any reviews.

Maybe worth the extra $100 to upgrade the storage to 256gb? That also means $200 more than the air 4….

Edit: Looks like the open box for 256 are about 200 more than the 64gb. I'll stick with the 64 5th Gen. over the 4th mainly for the M1 chip.

Which one is better? Ipad Pro(3rd gen) vs. Ipad Air (5th gen)

why not open a Best Buy credit card, and take advantage of the 10% discount for first purchase.

I don't think it'll be as impactful as you might think. It's no different than a page file on Windows. Also, Android also has something similar to page file and virtual memory swap, called RAM Plus. I have my android phone set to use 8GB of storage (which is the max), and you really can't tell the difference. Only truly matters for those that love to have more than a dozen open apps in the background without going to sleep and resetting. Apparently Stage Manager makes use of it, but I doubt that's much of the population.

IMO if you're like me and close the 3-4 apps that are open, you're very unlikely to be impacted. Also, I don't see why Apple can't extend this feature to 64GB models, even an extra 2, 4, 6 gigs, or even 8 gigs won't make a noticeable impact to storage size.

I think it's just Apple's method of segmenting again, using hardware differentiation that they put in, to supposedly affect software, in attempt to sell the more expensive model.

64GB - apple does have a set of balls dont they? lmao..

their "cheapest" option is always too small even years ago.

256GB should be the minimum any electronic device sold in late 2022 comes with, it should be written into law

My daughter has an OG iPad Pro 10.5. This Air has an upgrade everywhere except it doesn't have ProMotion.

With an M1 chip I'm baffled why it's can't do ProMotion. Unless it's just being held back which is evil

Of course it's being held back. If the display can't run 120hz, then it just means that Apple cheaped out there, which they did. It's a hardware limitation of the display itself that Apple chose. It's how they're able to control segmentation.

Can we still take advantage of the Target deal or are you just reminiscing?
