I also set mine up last week and managed to get the Echelon proprietary apps off the tablet using some of the information posted here [xda-developers.com]. Note that this is not a simple, quick or necessarily straightforward process, but the end result should be a tablet that still connects to the bike and can be configured with 3rd party apps.

I had no intention of using the Echelon app simply because 99% of it's functionality is tailored toward having a subscription. As soon as I saw the freestyle window as a full screen ad with a tiny stats bar at the bottom, I knew that app was coming off. There's supposed to be a way to re-load the Echelon app if you want to keep using it but I haven't figured that out yet.

I paid for the qdomyos-zwift app off the Amazon appstore and installed that on the tablet instead. It has a relatively basic interface but displays all the important info I need (cadence, speed, resistance level, etc.). It's also able to interact with the Peleton app if desired, which I hear good things about. For now, I have Plex & YouTube Vanced loaded on the tablet and run that with the qdomyos-zwift app in the background or in split screen.

EDIT: I was finally able to re-load the Echelon app after following step 5 on post 532 [xda-developers.com]. Installing the app this way allows you to do everything the stock Echelon app would (including update the bike itself) but will not firmware update the tablet and lock it back down in the process.
if you are interested in buying this or you've already bought it, check this thread out
https://forum.xda-developers.com/...m.4023915/

it shows you how to hack the echelon tablet to install the apps you like, and also to split the screen to display qdomyos-zwift and peleton app together, so you can enjoy the peleton app with a more reasonable monthly fee
YES! Right on time! I was running out of places to hang all my black Friday clothes.

I've seen other comments but for 300 is this as good as it gets? Or has there been better deals?
What I've seen in the past are the higher end models dropping aggressively few months after the new yr. May or may not happen again though. But if you want to get fit now, this will do the job without breaking the bank. It's a good deal.

After you factory reset and you get to the screen where it asks if you have a bike or a rower, you can tap on the bottom right hand corner 5 times and it will prompt for the password. It may take a few tries with the tapping at the corner to get it to come up.

Somehow for me, it doesn't pop up at all, tapped it multiple times after reset on the bike selection screenFrown

Was debating on keeping it or returning it, but with this option to 'hack' through the app; think I'm going to keep it. Appreciate the info!

I'm planning to get the echelon rower and I was wondering that if this same method can be used to remove the apps from the echelon tablet in the rower equipment? Not that tech savvy. Dunno if i need to get a separate app for rowing? Any help would be appreciated.

Any free recommendations for guided fitness apps (similar to paid peloton, echelon, etc.)?

Between all the comments and replies, I'm having a difficult time understanding how exactly to hack this and jailbreak it.

Can anyone give an understandable step-by-step on the process, starting with step 1? Talk to me like I'm a 40-something dad who is semi-computer literate.

Thanks and reps in advance.

That's the right question to ask! Some exercise bikes are built poorly with low quality alloys that flex top much and wear out quickly.

I really have my doubts about the 900 lb max weight limit on this.

Post #355 at the link below is exactly what you are looking for, a step by step which if followed should do what you want.

https://forum.xda-developers.com/...t-86523325

Also as a side note, you will need to install adb on your computer in order to send some commands to the tablet. I would also recommend using the power adapter and connecting directly to the tablet and having it next to your computer during the entire process rather then mounting it to the bike.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank jessejohanna

I got mine and put it together a couple days ago. A very quality built machine and money well spent. I'm not gonna get the subscription, the bike works just fine without it

For what it's worth I couldn't get adb to work properly so never completed those steps. Tablet works fine and reboots to the lawn chair launcher each time so long as you set it as the default launcher.
