I also set mine up last week and managed to get the Echelon proprietary apps off the tablet using some of the information posted here [xda-developers.com]. Note that this is not a simple, quick or necessarily straightforward process, but the end result should be a tablet that still connects to the bike and can be configured with 3rd party apps.

I had no intention of using the Echelon app simply because 99% of it's functionality is tailored toward having a subscription. As soon as I saw the freestyle window as a full screen ad with a tiny stats bar at the bottom, I knew that app was coming off. There's supposed to be a way to re-load the Echelon app if you want to keep using it but I haven't figured that out yet.

I paid for the qdomyos-zwift app off the Amazon appstore and installed that on the tablet instead. It has a relatively basic interface but displays all the important info I need (cadence, speed, resistance level, etc.). It's also able to interact with the Peleton app if desired, which I hear good things about. For now, I have Plex & YouTube Vanced loaded on the tablet and run that with the qdomyos-zwift app in the background or in split screen.

EDIT: I was finally able to re-load the Echelon app after following step 5 on post 532 [xda-developers.com]. Installing the app this way allows you to do everything the stock Echelon app would (including update the bike itself) but will not firmware update the tablet and lock it back down in the process.
if you are interested in buying this or you've already bought it, check this thread out
https://forum.xda-developers.com/...m.4023915/

it shows you how to hack the echelon tablet to install the apps you like, and also to split the screen to display qdomyos-zwift and peleton app together, so you can enjoy the peleton app with a more reasonable monthly fee
YES! Right on time! I was running out of places to hang all my black Friday clothes.

Post #355 at the link below is exactly what you are looking for, a step by step which if followed should do what you want.

Also as a side note, you will need to install adb on your computer in order to send some commands to the tablet. I would also recommend using the power adapter and connecting directly to the tablet and having it next to your computer during the entire process rather then mounting it to the bike.
For what it's worth I couldn't get adb to work properly so never completed those steps. Tablet works fine and reboots to the lawn chair launcher each time so long as you set it as the default launcher.

everyone is taking about app. what about bike itself? is sturdy enough?
Yes. Feels as quality as pelotons I've ridden. The only signal that it's not a $1k bike is that the screen is tiny, everything else feels like it (especially if you add clipped pedals)

Read the reviews on Costco.com… people claim you cannot change the resistance without the proprietary Echelon app basically forcing someone into paying for Echelon's subscription service.

IC4 from Schwinn literally advertises you can use the bike with Peloton.
this isn't true. In free ride you can change resistance.

The tablet seems to have a wall where it requires me to create an account and activate the bike. It comes with a free trial period (30 days).

Did you have to do this, or is there a way to bypass activation? Also, are the instruction for the youtube hack on the other thread?
sign up on website then go to tablet or app and sign in. That's what i did for free ride to use with peleton app

There will be sound, but it is normal, and the resistance is also possible when using it. If it is for working out, I would recommend it

Can anyone recommend a really cushioned bike seat? My seat is so painful.

How is this for tall people in good shape? I'm 6'4"with strong legs. Does this have strong resistance?

At the max resistance(32) and 70 rpm, somebody with power meter clocked it at ~427 watts. It goes up to 625 watts at 100rpm, which is beyond world-class.
https://github.com/cagnulein/qdom...tsport.cpp

According to this video, it should be good for people up to 6'5".

This bike is magnetic resistance, so it's mostly silent.

Walmart cancelled my order saying it was OOS. Now suddenly it's in stock and at same price. I really hate Walmart.

Ic4 is much better than this. You really should compare IC4 with Costco Echelon EX4S.

499 is a great price for EX-4s+, it was 699.99 at my Costco last week.
I ordered Schwinn Fitness IC4 from target for 450 plus tax.
Which is better value for money between Schwinn Fitness IC4 from Costco for 499.99 and Schwinn Fitness IC4 from target for 450?
Thanks!
The echelon ex-3 and higher can do auto-resistance following the Peloton app when you use qzfitness and the Schwinn cannot. Otherwise the Schwinn is slightly better built but echelon ex-3, ex-4, ex-5 etc give you the autoresistance at a fraction if the 2500 peloton bike.

if you plan to use this for workouts like Les Mills RPM, the max resistance of this is not close to simulate a heavy climb. The IC4 would be a better option IMO
