For $299 I thought this was a great deal for the specs. Bought with a redcard it's even less.
I just grabbed 2 of them.

Picked it up this afternoon. Nice overall, screen manufacturer|device ID is CMN1538 Innolux IPS panel. Backlit keyboard is very nice with two levels of brightness control and off state. Will add 8gb stick, upgrade wifi to Intel 6 and swap drive for 1TB that I bought earlier. Will post pics once I get it opened. converted to Win 11 home with no issues. came with F21 latest bios installed.
Thanks appreciate it. However I successfully upgraded wireless card to Intel AX210NGW. Added 8GB memory and upgraded drive to 500GB NVME drive that I had around. The first picture is as configured from factory. The other two are after upgrades installed.
This is the "better" 4 core i3, if that matters to anyone.

It appears that it is the same outside the CPU, but neither one lists much detail about the screens. Others have said the laptop in this deal has an IPS panel screen, which is probably mediocre but being IPS still much preferable to a TN panel screen.

From a CPU perspective, the i5-1135G7 is almost identical to the i3-1125G4. They are both quad core with hyperthreading, the i5 having slightly higher clocks. (Intel has recently been blurring the lines between what features you get with a laptop i3 vs a laptop i5.)

The most notable upgrade one gets with the i5 is the on-chip graphics processing unit (Intel Iris Xe) is quite a bit faster than the GPU on the i3 (Intel UHD), so the upgrade might be worth it if one wants to do some casual gaming that would benefit from a faster GPU. If not, the extra $50 doesn't make sense.
Does that one have a backlit keyboard like the I3 I posted?
EDIT: Comments in the I5 Walmart listing state it is not backlit like the I3 at Target. So not identical outside CPU. So for the money I am going to stick with the 2 I purchased from Target @ $284 each after the Redcard discount. $66 cheaper than that I5. I still think it's a steal.

Yeah agreed this is a great deal. Good catch on the missing backlit keyboard on the other machine.

Also nice that it comes in S mode. Anybody who can't get the OS out of S mode is probably better off staying in S mode laugh out loud .

Confirmed. I'm at Walmart now. No backlit keyboard on the I5 model.

Personally I'd rather have the i5 over a backlit keyboard. It is a benefit to performance and productivity all the time. While nice to have for lit function keys, other than for those that look at the keyboard when typing AND type in low light frequently, I don't see the regular utility of a backlit keyboard.

Just my thoughts on it.

These are some decent window laptops deals, but the screen are mostly TN which to me is a deal breaker. When combined with low nits, it really makes the exepreience crap. Colors are washed out unless you are a the optimal viewing angle.
The best 4-core i-series laptops that do manage to get down to this sub-$300 price point are typically best used as desktop replacements (so with an external monitor or perhaps in a fixed/ideal setup optimized for lighting and viewing angle) or as portable devices (so moving from one such desktop setup to another). They're rarely equipped with screens capable of proper mobile usage.

Good luck!

Just a kindly word of advice is HP bios locks their laptop to whatever card came pre-installed. Tried similar upgrades on HP and it will not boot. Will give foreign card is stalled. Even though the wifi 5 card maybe Intel, an Intel wifi 6 card most like will not work. Good Luck

Are there any instructions on how to open the laptop to do these upgrades? Thanks!
