Good luck getting an installation done. All the stores near me are booked until mid January.
$190 for TT members.
I like it but my wife works in a large hospital and her car is parked in a parking garage. So most of the time the car doesnt start from the other building she is working at. So since this is unlimited range, i am thinking this might be better. I understand the subscription pricing but if we use it for 4/12 months it is cold here, i guess its worth it.

I don't need anything fancy, just the remote start. Is this worth it or are there cheaper options?

Get the cs4905s. It has 2way remote and 3000ft range. It goes on sale for around $250 often.

Here's the last time it was on sale. Just add a deal alert and Slickdeals will notify you when it goes back on sale

Another question. One of my cars has the compustar 2 way remote start installed from bestbuy. Can I put the LTE module in? Is it something easy to do yourself if you already have the 2 way 4905 installed?
Yes, you can diy if you are handy and not afraid to take apart your dash or get to the 4905 module.

I can't seem to add the installation to my cart. I click it and the window jumps around, but never finishes updating. I've tried multiple browsers and OSes. Anyone know how to ensure you get the installation for free?
You need to ensure the store you are selecting is a store that actually does installs. If it's not, you won't be able to add the install.

I think push-to-start Lexus and Toyota have this "feature". I had this just installed in a push-to-start Mazda CX-5 and you can unlock the door without the engine stopping. Not the case with my daughter's 2017 RAV4.

The BestBuy guy that did our Mazda was great. He had it and the add-on drone module installed in less than 1 hour. Very professional, no nonsense - went over everything in detail,
answered questions patiently and we were on our way.
I have a 2016 CX-5. Do you know if the car stops if the key fob is not near the car and someone tries to drive off?

Its $189 for totaltech members, i would sign up for the discount and free 2 year warranty. Also this is definitely worth it, i had it installed in a toyota, acrua, and lexus. Definitely recommended. I thought the app would be useless but its actually really useful when you are far away

The drone is 100% worth it. You can start your car from anywhere as long as your car and phone has a cellular signal. I don't have to waste 20secs searching for the right spot from my office cubicle to start my car anymore with a FOB.

Is TT good for anything else? You save $110 with TT, and I know the TT discount is common on these, but are there any other items that TT regularly saves you money on to make up the rest of the cost of the membership?
Buying two of the remote start already puts you ahead. I bought the membership and installed it in 5 different cars. I had 2 close calls with moronic drivers the last month, I'm definitely putting in a dash cam with this.

So the car must have LTE or some cell signal? So its not just the phone?

does this remote start system also function as a car alarm? I don't see a horn or any sensors for hood/trunk included.

I have a 2013 Ford Explorer which already has a remote start feature in its fob key. I am wondering if it makes sense to get this just because it is on a deal. I don't use the car too much and live in Seattle where the weather is moderate. Anyone who installed this despite having a remote start key fob? Do I still need to carry my original key for for my push button car? Thank you.

No, it's a remote start only. You might be able to add an alarm but I'm not sure

Anyone considering adding one of these to your car, just remember that these devices place a load on your 12v battery all the time. They sit there listening for a signal, like an aftermarket car-alarm will always be drawing current doing it's thing when the car is shut off.

Last year a similar device went on sale and the thread here on SD had more than 1 story of folks who's cars sat for 2 weeks in the winter only to find dead batteries. Just be mindful of how often your car sits around, if you use it often it's probably not an issue, but in the bitter cold...well just remember that thing is always listening and run your car accordingly Smilie
