Can't go wrong with a Roland. Used them for years. Roland recently updated their TD17 model, putting the older TD17s on sale. I would spend the extra $350 and get a TD17. You get a 12 snare and three 8 toms. (vs the 8 in snare and 6 inch toms on the TD07.) I've recently upgraded my kit and the pad size makes a world of difference imo.

I believe his point being that the old model makes more sense financially.

. There is not an included specific pedal for the v drum because there are no electronics needed for it. You can use the same kind of kick pedal you would use for an acoustic kit, which can be purchased from any music retailer. Sweet water has them starting at $60 and up.
Still doesn't answer the question why not include one. It's like selling a car and it won't include tires because you can just buy any regular tires out there.

It's a decent deal. This is a mid range e-kit from Roland. Most drummers would enjoy playing this. It's no substitute for a real acoustic kit though
LOL OBVIOUSLY NOT A REPLACEMENT.... wow

Maybe a dumb question. I always wanted to learn the drums but didn't want to get the cheapest or most expensive set. Would this be good for a beginner to learn on or would you recommend something else?

Got the 07kx from Costco, like it
Me, too (for $999). The head unit is TD-07 (like the one in this deal) in the Costco specific set, which is not as versatile as the TD-17, but it fits my needs perfectly. I do have the space for an acoustic kit, but my hours only allow for playing in the evening, which I'm sure my neighbors -or the members of the family- would not appreciate with an acoustic kit. With the Roland kit, I can jam any time! It's not a replacement for an acoustic set, but it's rather a different playing experience.

I much prefer the 12" snare and 8" toms from the Costco set over the tiny versions (8' snare and 6' toms) that come with this kit. Costco kit also includes the kick pedal, Roland wired headphones and a second crash cymbal. If I end up using it more than I initially planned, I can always upgrade it later to a TD-17 set (may be the V2, who knows) from Costco down the road.

As a part time drummer in a bar band I have been crammed onto small stages that are just not fun to setup on using a traditional kit. I looked at rolan extensively and feel the TD-17KVX is the right fit for most players trying to save money. Yes it's $1,500. But you get everything most drummers need. I haven't pulled the trigger yet.

The one posted here is half the cost making it appealing as a practice kit. Not sure I'd want to roll it out live. So I guess it depends on the use case.

You can add on to these and almost every drummer has a kick pedal they can use on this. Not a bad deal. I just prefer this model for the upper mid-range.

I have a Yamaha set that is probably a cut or two below this... I think it's an excellent set to learn on. I didn't start on an electronic set but I went from mid-beginner to decent amateur on it.

Hi,
You seem to be very knowledgeable about this product. I just bought a set from this deal. What else is needed to start playing. I heard it is not complete out of the box, it doesn't come with the kick or something.
Thanks

You'll need a kick pedal, sticks and a throne to start playing out of the box.

If you haven't done it already, go to settings and change the snare size to the correct/bigger one that normally comes with the TD-17 kits.

Can you please point me to the link where I can buy it? I googled it but the ones I found were a little more expensive.

The bottom line, that's the reason, that's always the reason. That and a drum pedal is a highly personal choice for most or many drummers.

You're also going to need headphones, a drum amplifier or a PA system. You will find package deals from some merchants which include the throne, kick pedal, sticks, and headphones, but you're not going to find this kit at loss leader pricing like that. There are several other reasons why the kick pedal and throne aren't included, including brand strength, meaning Roland doesn't have to throw in extras to get them to sell. Also most drummers with acoustic drums will not only have these things, but as has been suggested, we're particular about them, and if what's provided isn't up to our standards, it might actually be a negative.

Another way to look at it is electric guitars are often sold without a cord, case or an amp. Sure you can find package deals with everything. This isn't that deal.

For anyone who is just starting off or not looking to spend a lot, I suggest checking Craigslist or Offer Up. I've seen decent Alesis sets on there in the $200-300 range. Been thinking of doing this myself I just haven't pulled the trigger.
