If you don't have hard water, regular tabs and rinse aid should work. If you have hard water or dishes are not coming out clean despite whatever you try, then you need to hack it up like me. Put little bit of white vinegar in small bowls in both racks during the cycle. It will aid cleaning and make glassware less cloudy. For thorough cleaning, you can also put a spoonful of citric acid and / or tri-sodium phosphate in the same compartment after you put the tab in and then close it. Run the cycle as usual. You can buy citric acid or tri-sodium phosphate in bulk at hardware stores or Amazon. Millard brand citric acid in 10lb bags is what I buy for best $ to lb ratio. It stays fresh in a sealed bag. TSP you can buy any brand that is cheap. The 10 lb bag lasts me 1-2 years. Haven't tracked exactly how long. It will depend on your frequency of running the dishwasher. But it is quite cheap to add.
Edit: Fun fact about TSP is that it got banned from dishwasher tabs and detergents because of its ecological impact related to algae. They still use it in cleaners for roofs etc. It sounds terrible but it is not terrible for human beings as long as one is careful to use it to clean stuff. Contact with eyes or skin may cause irritation and as with many such things, don't go ingesting it else it will harm your body.
With 15% S&S discount unlocked, Amazon per oz price comes at par (3% cheaper!) with Sam's Club 32oz currently on 4$ off sale for 7.58$. It is 4$ off at Costco as well. I'm not sure about its club price. Online is 10.49$, as Costco prices almost always are higher online than in club.
If you don't have a warehouse club membership, this deal is a no brainer. if you have a membership, and don't wish to buy so many bottles, then just buy from Costco or Sam's Club.

Thanks, saving this.
We don't have hard water but when you say regular tabs and rinse, which you mean? And where is best to buy? Thanks again

Good tips you provided thank you so much
I'm glad it was useful. I edited to add more info and correct typos.
By regular tabs and rinse aid, I mean any reputed brand products. Finish and Cascade seem to be market leaders and you'd find different people who clearly favor one over the other. Some people also swear by the cheaper store brands offered by Costco or Sam's Club. There are far too many variants for something as simple as this. Go with an affordable choice and continue using it as long as it gives satisfactory results before springing for the more expensive ones.
Just this month a study was released stating that this stuff likely kills off gut bacteria, and can lead to inflammatory responses on your digestive tract lining, even when extremely diluted. The leftover film after a dishwasher cycle is enough to cause gut these problems. I'm phasing this stuff out of my routine.

TLDR: Essentially all dishwasher detergent be it in a pod or a powder is pretty much the exact same thing and the pods can actually be worse because there is nothing going in for the prewash. Just get the cheapest powder from walmart or sams. Same with rinse aid.

The powder ones work just as well. This video really opened my eyes about how dishwashers work. https://youtu.be/_rBO8neWw04

"The chemical is also present in household dishwasher detergent, but not at concentrations high enough to do any damage."
"Normal dishwashers and household rinse agents will contain traces of alcohol ethoxylates, but the dishwasher cycle will reduce to concentration to a safe amount."
