I nailed a piece of 2 by 4 to the wall and then nailed long nails in that, drilled holes in the handles of my rakes and shovels that didn't already have them, it works great.
Had two. Two pieces of crap
I had a similar unit in my garage. Fell apart in 2 years.

Do people still put up pegboard in their garages? My dad did it so I did it. Works great and cheap. But then you see products out like this.

Get Gladiator gear track instead of this cheap flimsy version.

Probably should have screwed that 2x4 in if u expect it to hold anything with a decent amount of weight.

A peg board imo is good for smaller tools like hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, hardware bins, etc. Rail systems are good for yard tools

I picked up one of those old school galvanized trash cans. I put it in the corner of my garage and it nicely fits all my shovels, rakes, brooms, etc. Easy button.

I use a large trash can placed in a corner to put all my implements in. Been working great for 20 years.

Need a deal on a trash can now. And a pic of your setup Smilie

Why do people use these wall storage systems?? I just put all mine in a tall cabinet in the back of the garage and it looks so clean. It would only make sense if you use every yard tool every day
putting all your stuff away is inefficient and contributes to procrastination.

Confused Do you not realize other people could have different preferences and scenarios? For example, I have a large shed... why would I want a "tall cabinet" to store my equipment? OR, my garage is a little tighter, I wouldn't have room to add a "tall cabinet" and hanging would save more space...

It's been up there 20 years, so thanks for your concern, but shovels and rakes aren't as heavy as it seems you're imagining.

Ok sure. My point was that it just looks ugly and seems much better to put things away in a cabinet so the garage or shed looks clean. I could see this in a shop where people use the items all day long.

If tools were placed other way around, they would stay in place. With placement shown in picture, would they not fall down? Do they stay in place due to friction between tool and hooks?
I got the Harbor Freight version of this. Based on pics and reviews it looked pretty much the same as the one from Lowes (Blue Hawk?). Probably all come from the same manufacturer.

It's not bad, maybe better than expected. I think at first had high hopes, bought a couple, saw how cheap it was returned most of then, decided it wasn't bad and picked up an extra one but didn't use it. It does indeed hang by the handle handle (tool head can be up or down) and the s hooks clamp onto it. Although sometimes you might have to rehang it to get it at the right angle to not slide out. For the most part they seem to stay put. When I was having work done on the house and there was a lot of banging, things slid out which I kind of expected.

I initially was just going to use a 2x4 and ended up mounting this on the 2x4. The idea was that I could stagger the hooks with nails but didn't really workout that way.

But I think when I get around to it I'm going to just hang a piece of plywood up and hang nails on it because I want a whole storage system for other things as well. With this system you have to kind of places things like a jigsaw puzzle and it's kind of hard to utilize every hook at the same time. I also don't hang anything heavy on there. Anything five pounds or more I'd just want to use nails.

Other options would be a french cleat system, which I considered as well. Slat wall but didn't see any deals the last time I looked. And would consider other cleat/track systems but they're kind of pricey and proprietary(harder to get matching parts for)

I might consider pegboard too but most posts say the ones at Home Depot and Lowes aren't great and you want to get the thicker ones. I figure it's easier to get plywood(even though it's expensive now) and is why I'm leaning towards just hanging up a sheet of plywood and/or use a french cleat system.
