Probably should have screwed that 2x4 in if u expect it to hold anything with a decent amount of weight.
A peg board imo is good for smaller tools like hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, hardware bins, etc. Rail systems are good for yard tools
Need a deal on a trash can now. And a pic of your setup

It's not bad, maybe better than expected. I think at first had high hopes, bought a couple, saw how cheap it was returned most of then, decided it wasn't bad and picked up an extra one but didn't use it. It does indeed hang by the handle handle (tool head can be up or down) and the s hooks clamp onto it. Although sometimes you might have to rehang it to get it at the right angle to not slide out. For the most part they seem to stay put. When I was having work done on the house and there was a lot of banging, things slid out which I kind of expected.
I initially was just going to use a 2x4 and ended up mounting this on the 2x4. The idea was that I could stagger the hooks with nails but didn't really workout that way.
But I think when I get around to it I'm going to just hang a piece of plywood up and hang nails on it because I want a whole storage system for other things as well. With this system you have to kind of places things like a jigsaw puzzle and it's kind of hard to utilize every hook at the same time. I also don't hang anything heavy on there. Anything five pounds or more I'd just want to use nails.
Other options would be a french cleat system, which I considered as well. Slat wall but didn't see any deals the last time I looked. And would consider other cleat/track systems but they're kind of pricey and proprietary(harder to get matching parts for)
I might consider pegboard too but most posts say the ones at Home Depot and Lowes aren't great and you want to get the thicker ones. I figure it's easier to get plywood(even though it's expensive now) and is why I'm leaning towards just hanging up a sheet of plywood and/or use a french cleat system.
