I use these battery terminal protection washers on all of my cars and they work very well to prevent the white powder on the battery terminals. You will need to take the battery terminal off of the post, put the washer down over the post against the top of the battery (look at the pictures) and then re-attach the terminal on the battery post.
This is the cheapest I have seen a 2-pack before. It is even cheaper with Subscribe and Save. Noco is a reliable brand and they are made in the USA

Dry tugging is not good for long term shaft health
It's just a pad soaked in oil. The oil coats the terminal as you slip it on. WD40 does the same thing. The pad retains some of the oil for longevity.
