I was completely shocked at how much these taste like actual real lemon or lime. I can't stand the bottled stuff. Great for adding to plain water or for making lemonade or limeade with REAL sugar. Drinks are ok with Splenda or monk fruit if you drink it right away. I've found that if I let it sit and I've used artificial sweeteners it tastes funky. However, when it comes to adding this to foods it's the best substitute for the real thing I've found. I mix it with water and a little garlic salt or I add it to a little melted butter and blend it for crab or shrimp, or I sprinkle it on top of baked or broiled fish and it tastes exactly like using the real thing. I've used it to make cheesecakes. No funky taste and no aftertaste. I legit have not bought real lemons or limes in almost 2 years because I buy the 500 pack of these at Sam's and call it a day. I carry them in my purse. They do expire but they don't taste any different IMO. I would highly recommend these.
That lawsuit is about labeling and only involves their lemonade products mixed with fruit flavors. Not the lemon or lime. Petroleum isn't even mentioned in the suit.
These are nice for adding flavor to drinks (not just water, or sparkling water, but also for adding flavor to other stuff -- like Lime to Coke, letting you get a flavor similar to the freestyle machines), but it's also nice for adding to food (similar to Tajin)

The packets are convenient since you're not dealing with actual fruit (lemons/lime) or a large container, so you can throw some packets in your work bag

LOL, fresh lemons cost $2/lb in normal stores. Somewhere even cheaper.
Or lemon juice if you so lazy.
But not THIS.

I tried "True Lemon" but prefer the Target Market Place brand of Lemonade. I found it to be som much better. They stopped selling a year or so ago but it is now back.

I like having these to sprinkle on something where I would squeeze a lemon and I don't happen to have a lemon. Not as good as fresh lemon, but it works in a pinch.

You can buy 2 gigantic bottles of Real Lemon juice at Costco (about $5-$7) and a box of whatever your preferred sweetener is (mine is the Whole Earth Monkfruit/Stevia) for about $20 for 400 packets... which will both last a couple months. (If you're flavoring water, I've found 2 packets and 5 squirts of lemon juice in a 16 Oz water bottle hits the spot!)

I did a quick search on the topic and the lawsuit accuses them of using dl-malic acid in their products but not labeling as such. I didn't look for petroleum in the the suit but it appears that dl-malic acid is a petroleum derived product. By mentioning dl-malic acid the petroleum thing is implied.

these are a great source of petroleum, not exactly all natural. they are embroiled in a class action lawsuit.

try a real lemon.
Different products:

The case says the defendant uses dl-malic acid, a synthetic chemical manufactured from petroleum, to reinforce the "tart and fruity flavors" associated with the fruits depicted on the True Citrus water-flavoring products, which include True Lemon Original Lemonade, True Lemon Raspberry Lemonade, True Lemon Strawberry Lemonade and True Lime Black Cherry drink mixes.

If this is just the lemon flavor, it's fine... But I have to say the lemonade one (and crystal lite) are the only drinks that hurt my teeth

Anyone know if these flavored water enhancers work in ninja creami ice cream recipes? Or better to use flavored extracts, protein powders for stronger taste.

been using these for years in water, soda, mixed drinks (nice tang on a marg rim) & even baking when i dont have fresh lemon on hand. i just got a creami & i could see using them for ice cream/gelato/sorbet. def more natural vs extracts
