Prior to 2019 TT hid their free filing webpage from search engine results and steered eligible filers to their paid software, so honestly, they keep giving me reasons not to give them a second chance.
Regarding accuracy, for simpler returns either is probably fine. TT has known issues with form 1116 and does not complete it correctly, while Block does. For more complex returns, rentals, limited partnerships, and foreign taxes, Block is much better. In addition, Block has free audit support. TT is now owned by Intuit, so that is another reason to prefer Block to avoid Intuit's predatory practices.

Question is buy it now or wait until Feb/Mar for even better deal? Don't know 😕 already missed out on RedPocket annual plan deal that I passed on during black friday but never came during Christmas. So now I'm feeling FOMO.

I know for the online versions Deluxe accommodates independent contractors with no expenses to deduct, while Premium is for independent contractors with expenses to deduct. I would assume the same applies for the downloaded versions, but have not confirmed.
Ended up getting Premium just in case. Although I will have no expenses. Only $10 more to be sure.
I also switched from TurboTax to H&R a few years ago. I found H&R much easier as well as cheaper, but my returns are simple. I really should be using a free option at this point.

Q: You stated you used both software for your tax return and were not happy with H&R Block, which is understandable as each software is different - the question I have - was there any difference in the final tax due or tax refund between the two software packages? If so, who far off was one over the other? Did you find out why there was a difference, if any?
TIA
