Vizio M7 75" was a front page deal recently for the same price. The TCL fares much better on rtings.com with an impressive mixed usage score of 8.0. The M7's mixed usage score of 7.7 suffered mostly due its sports and TV show ratings.
It would be hard to know. The thing to remember is if you enjoy the image quality, does anything else matter? The sites that review these are doing side by side comparisons, using measuring devices, etc. General consumers are just doing the eye test with a single device in front of them. We have a 4 series and older 6 series (P607). After tweaking settings, it is really hard to tell the difference with general viewing in comparable viewing environments (night time). The 6 series is in our basement so there is rarely much light to compete with, but the 4 series is on the main floor in a room with a ton of windows. Even when we had them reversed, the sun shining directly on either TV impacted things more than the technical differences between the two.

Just make sure you tweak picture settings (at a min, take it off eco mode), and my guess is you will be pleasantly happy. That advice holds for whatever TV people buy - they usually come on a power saving mode that impact brightness.
I find it funny when people compare TV's in general… just buy what your disposable income allows you to that meets your expectations of use. No one should tell you what your own use case would be for a TV. If you're in front of your TV all day then buy a top of the line Sony or LG OLED. If you're a gamer then get a 120htz tv. If you just watch sports then buy a 77-85" tv. For the kitchen, gym, or garage - save some money and get a smaller 4k from a cheaper brand. If you only watch tv from time to time then get any 4k 55"-70" decent tv like Vizio, TCL, Hisense, etc. most importantly for all of these occasions take warranty into deep consideration from retailers like Costco.

I see a few posts about not having Dolby Atmos. Can someone clarify:

if this TV is connected to a Soundbar via e-arc HDMI and I am streaming Netflix on the tv, would it really not be Dolby Atmos coming through the soundbar?

3 Points? It's certainly something, but I don't know if it's huge. But as I mentioned the M7's lower score was mostly due to the sports and TV show ratings. In reality they're both good TV's. The average person might not even have a preference if you put them side by side. It's too easy to fall down the rabbit hole. The only point I was trying to make was that this TV is just as good a deal, (but yes, maybe slightly better.) I'm really trying to avoid mincing the small potatoes. The thing I think more about is that a 75" entry level LG or Samsung is only about $100 less. When you step up to the next size, the difference is $300-500. That's what can make the M7, 5-Series or U6H such good values for 75 (and 65") TV's.

Really?! My 5 series from 2020 supports Dolby Atmos

I was strongly considering this for the living room, but no Dolby Atmos is gonna kill it for me. The difference between Atmos and no Atmos even on a low end sound bar makes a massive difference imo.

Going from something on Netflix with Atmos compatibility like stranger things to something that's non Atmos is almost jarring at times.

For reference, I have a mediocre TCL soundbar with a wireless sub. perfect for small apartment living. It's not like I have a real home theater setup to notice the difference.

I will also note the stock speakers on my 5 series are awful, but to be expected.
I have the TCL P607 from pre-residential Atmos, but have an Atmos/DTS:X receiver. Atmos enabled TVs don't mean a whole lot. You can get an Atmos/DTS:X sound bar and have never heard of a requirement for the TV to be Atmos-enabled.

Interested in a tv for back porch. Will this one be bright enough to fight off the glare of outside?

If you think the 4 series is decent you pretty much invalidated your entire argument. Even in a pitch black room the HDR is laughable dark. It's like 150cd/m. They are terrible black Friday level TVs. You literally can't find a modern TV that performs worse.

This vs Samsung TU700D at Costco (https://www.costco.com/samsung-75...473.html)?

I got the Samsung the other day in the 65" size but realized I know to go bigger and was going to order the 75" version. Happy with the picture quality on the Sammy. Also have a TCL 4-series with Roku and like it, but it can be buggy sometimes with crashing and the need to reset.

Main drawback for me here is Best Buy returns/warranty vs. Costco. Never had a good sales/returns experience at BB so the peace of mind at Costco is worth something. Also get 4% cash back at Costco so the cost difference is a bit greater. Thoughts?

What does general viewing mean to you? General viewing to me is not going to press any TV too significantly on the grounds of it is general - probably not even fancy cameras to record it. Watching a YouTube creator vlog or Sports Center isn't going to showcase much of a difference. To me, that is general viewing. Most kids programming - cartoons, kid sitcoms, family sitcoms…that stuff is probably not even filmed with cameras where the phrase "peak brightness" is mentioned by anyone, never mind HDR, Dolby Vision, etc.

There is a reason I have the 6 series with my 5.1.4 set up now and not the 4 series. You are right, during HDR intensive movies and such, there is a difference. I don't know what any person is using their TV for the most, hence why I said GENERAL viewing.

So please let me know how my comment undoes itself. Or did you simply read general viewing as "my viewing habits" and attack me.

PS - rtings says the 4 series peak HDR brightness is more than double your claim.

Is the 5 series as bad as the 4 series in terms of dying after 2.5 years?
Also more interested in the 55 inch for $380. Maybe the 65 inch but I would be using the stand not wall mount and might be too big for my TV stand

I have a 50" 4 Series since the last 4 years and I have no issues or problems with it. I'm actually bored of the fact that it hasn't given me a reason to purchase a new one! Lol
