I'll be traveling to SD about once a month for work.
I plan on taking a boat out at fisherman's landing, but would also like to bring a rod and reel with me in the event I have only a couple hours after work to fish.
I already have a 7' M travel (4 piece) spinning rod rated for 1/4-1/2oz, but I've thrown up to an ounce with it and it seemed fine. I use a BG2500 with it.
Would you suggest anything else? A heavier setup? I doubt I would be throwing any weight and bait, but may like to have that option if it's easy and quick enough to grab bait and do some fishing.
Thanks.

This is perfect, thanks.
My travel rod won't actually fit in my carry-on, so I guess I'm going to grab one of these telescopic rods.
Anyone rating you may suggest or just stick with something around 7' and in the 1/2oz range?
Telescopic is super junk the regular is just junk. Get an ugly stik for $10 more w 5yr warranty

Check Daiwa Presso pack rod, it has 56UL all the way up to 7UL. Pack rod is way better than tele rod.

Build is very good, I didn't see any QC concerns. Better than I expected to be honest. Rod has good feel too it. It isn't heavy at all like most telescopic rods. Lining up the guides is going to be a PITA I can tell already since some of the guides are free floating. But the pieces hold together very well, so I don't think twisting of the pieces or guides will be too much of an issue.
I bought the 6'8" one, but unfortunately it still is a little too big to fit in my carry-on bag which is the reason I bought it. Oh well, I think I can just strap it to my backpack (personal item) when flying and they won't hassle me too much about it.
Either way, I'm going to keep it in my truck since you never know when you might find a nice pond to fish.
Edit: it will fit in my carry-on if I remove the plastic tip protector. So that is an option (or I buy a slightly bigger carry-on bag).
