I paid only one month of service, and let it sit in the box. It's automatically unlocked 180 days later.

Am I the only one terrified of going into a metro store. Have read so many horror stories of mangers making up their own rules (requiring insurance, buying cases, requiring 3 months of service)

To each his own, for me, iPhone 11 would be only for resale and as it is not a 5G phone, its resellable unlocked only in 6 months by which time I presume it'll be around $300. Not worth the hassle for me

I went to Metro shop and they asked me to provide them My present carrier Account and transfer Pin number. For that, they said I have to call my carrier customer center and get the pin from them. Anyone here faced the same thing? I don't want change my present carrier, but I have google voice number. Could anyone guide me what to do now?
For Google Voice you need to unlock your number and set a PIN for your voicemail before you can port it out. Unlocking the number is pretty straightforward, setting the voicemail PIN is not so obvious - the procedure for doing so has changed and a lot of the info online is out of date.

To unlock your number, log into your GV account using a web browser (not the GV mobile app) then go to unlock your GV number. This will cost $3 unless your number was originally ported into GV. You will also need to have set a PIN for your voicemail. If you haven't done this before this is how you do it:

Under Settings scroll down to the Voicemail section, then enable "Call to listen". This will then prompt you to set the PIN. Again you will need to do this from a web browser as it's not exposed in the app.

After doing the above you will be able to port your number. Your account number is simply your GV number and the transfer PIN is the voicemail PIN that you've set.

They don't take Google voice. Unless they change it this year.
Your account is your phone number and the pin is what you setup for Google voice. If you don't have it you can set it up yourself

Didn't want to pay the $10 insurance so I walked out. Did i make the wrong move?
Imo it was a good deal they offered. Guess you went to the corporate office. When I called one of the authorized dealer they asked me $350 OTD...crazy right

I did this deal just last week at an authorized store (corporate store not easy to get to) but the price of the phone was $49.99.

What are the odds they will refund me the $49.99 since I am still within the 14 day return period?
Zero, if I were to guess. But doesn't hurt trying.

Reasoning being, authorized stores are known to sell at inflated price even when free phone deals are advertised live on their website, I don't see why they'd feel compelled to refund a purchase made during a time that promo wasn't live (or they'd claim so).

How do you buy a phone number?
Numberbarn.com is a good site. I felt for this deal. They only accept current att or Verizon switchover. None of the prepaid carriers

A few folks in this thread have successfully ported in their Google Voice numbers. I also asked a Metro store to check if my GV number would qualify for the promo (without actually telling them that it was an GV number) and after checking in their system they confirmed that it would.

This is a question to ask somebody in your country. Find out what phone provider your mother uses, and ask if iPhones work on their network (probably will work, throughout my travels I haven't seen any telecom provider that does not support the iPhone). Another question to ask is if a phone purchased abroad (meaning you buy here in the US) will work reliably there. Some South East Asian country tries to curb grey market imports (essentially what you're planning to do) by whitelisting IMEI of phones that's already paid local taxes/import tariffs. Unheard of in the USA I know. Always a possibility.

The iPhone 11 in this thread will be locked to Metro for at least 6 months (can't put any other SIM than Metro).

Edit: If you're going to use it on WiFi only, then by all means, buy whatever iPhone, even this one.

Front page for a 4G phone that is 3 generations old?
The only you would deal with the headache of Metro is for trade-in value.
It's not going to be TMO you are dealing with but some snake oil franchise.
Go read reddit, there are stories of Metro workers who discuss how they are encouraged to cheat and scam people.
NYC sued them a couple years ago.
