Metro will activate the SIM within 2 weeks of your delivery date, but I don't think it will automatically activate your phone/trigger the device's internal unlock counter. You have to install the SIM and turn on the phone for that. I noticed my phone's unlock date was exactly 181 days after I put my SIM into the phone and not when the SIM was activated two weeks prior, so it was a good thing I put it into my phone before the first month was over. Might've had to pay for another month and start the counter from there.

Can confirm that I only spent money on the first month and kept it in a drawer afterwards for exactly 180 days after my SIM activated, but it said I wasn't eligible for a unlock until about 2 weeks later after that (180 days after I finally turned the phone on with the SIM inside). Bought this phone back in June (with the deal at discounted price with first month, not this better deal at free with first month) and unlocked just about 2 weeks ago.

The unlock setting (built into the phone, not a separate app) gives a very distinct, red X with message saying that I didn't reach the requisite 180 days to unlock the device, but that message about the 180 days disappeared after waiting a few weeks longer and in its place was a link to try a 'permanent unlock', which worked.

Moving to the cameras, the Galaxy A53 comes equipped with a quad-camera setup, which is headlined by a 64MP main camera with OIS. The other three shooters include a 12MP ultra-wide camera and two 2MP macro and depth sensors. The Moto G Stylus has a triple camera system, comprising a 50MP main shooter, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, and a 2MP depth sensor. As for selfies and video calls, the Galaxy A53 has a 32MP camera while the Moto G Stylus 5G has a 16MP shooter. On technical merits, the Galaxy A53 has a better camera system. In good lighting, both phones are capable of producing decent shots with rich colors and ample details from their main camera. However, in low-light and dark conditions, the Galaxy A53 produces better results. And it also has a dedicated night mode for pulling in more light when shooting dark scenes.

so before you make yourself look silly . do some real research or better yet, try them out before you comment. I've tried both these phones
Thanks for the detail helpful feedback. So which one would you prefer or recommend? Would like to buy one, just don't know which one? Better camera 64GB/4GB RAM A23 or 128GB/6GB RAM Moto for better daily usage (youtube mostly)?

I just opened the moto g box and first impressions are the phone is ridiculously big and the screen quality is excellent. It's a steal for $40 if you're just using it for youtube

Just ordered after it came back in stock. Smooth set up. Says it will ship today and arrive by Friday. I didn't get any of the strange questions that others got to verify who they were. I just got the basic account set up questions like setting up pin and one security question like what's your school mascot to verify identity later.

Question: If I activate it, then don't pay for 6 months until it unlocks, how long do I own the new phone number? Can they cancel my account and release the phone number? I was thinking the number has value in the future say in a couple years to get in on another deal that requires "port in". Basically, Is the new phone number mine forever even if it's not active in a paying account?
When the phone says Emergency calls only with no signal, chances are your number is gone by then. The service ends after 1 month, then if you stop paying, your account would be canceled after some time and the number recycled.

If you want to keep the number assigned, port it out before the first month (when you still have paid service) ends. No guarantees about phone unlocking. I've ported out a number from Metro phone before the first month ends, and it was quick and simple. Remains to be seen if the associated phone will unlock sometime this summer.

note that the comparison that you are referencing is comparing the moto g stylus to the much more expensive A53, not the A23

that's the cell plan that you signed up for...
it's 40 per month if the autopay is set up. if it's not, then it will just cease to work after 1 month and you won't be charged anything else

CHA-CHING!!!
Did you place 10 separate orders with 10 different email and payment methods? The website does not even let people place one order successfully. I'm wondering how did you even complete these orders.

I couldn't find the sim card inside the moto g box. Is it supposed to be in there? Or is it sent separately?

Moto has bigger screen and better specs, but just comparing Netflix, same movie side by side, I kinda like the Samsung screen better. The A23 screen is big enough as it is for me.

the sim card comes into a brown envelope, you can easily confuse it with shipping packaging

Mine was in a brown envelope inside the box. Looks like packing material, easy to miss.
