Metro will activate the SIM within 2 weeks of your delivery date, but I don't think it will automatically activate your phone/trigger the device's internal unlock counter. You have to install the SIM and turn on the phone for that. I noticed my phone's unlock date was exactly 181 days after I put my SIM into the phone and not when the SIM was activated two weeks prior, so it was a good thing I put it into my phone before the first month was over. Might've had to pay for another month and start the counter from there.

Can confirm that I only spent money on the first month and kept it in a drawer afterwards for exactly 180 days after my SIM activated, but it said I wasn't eligible for a unlock until about 2 weeks later after that (180 days after I finally turned the phone on with the SIM inside). Bought this phone back in June (with the deal at discounted price with first month, not this better deal at free with first month) and unlocked just about 2 weeks ago.

The unlock setting (built into the phone, not a separate app) gives a very distinct, red X with message saying that I didn't reach the requisite 180 days to unlock the device, but that message about the 180 days disappeared after waiting a few weeks longer and in its place was a link to try a 'permanent unlock', which worked.

How to check this?
"No payment saved on file either"
Sure - In top right corner, 'my account' drop-down then select profile.
It will have payment methods and mine displays "no saved payments"

I believe I left any 'save my payment info' boxes unchecked during checkout

This is a much better case from $5 on clearance:

100% Agree great find (and I see it's on SD frontpage now)
I wanted the Red to match the live Red wallpaper I threw on it, but the Denim is a better case so I picked one up too

Why I can't buy online. For new numbers also, do we have to go to store to buy this one?

If you don't mind me asking, how did you end up with a t mobile sim being enclosed with your phone? I ordered a new n200 from metro on Friday evening and it arrived today but the SIM card is purple with a large m on it for metro. On the first order screen I chose new number (not keep an existing number). By the sounds of it you chose the keep your existing number option - am I right? Thank you
It sounds like I just got lucky. I think it's a YMMV depending on what inventory T-Mo/Metro has on hand. I also choose to have a new number assigned by Metro.

I got the Metro sim card tied to the new number in the UPS box packaged on its own. The phone also came with a T-Mo sim card packaged as part of the documentation inside the N200 box (in the black sleeve). The T-Mo sim was packaged on a card next to the sim removal tool.

Any advice on buying online? I can add to cart, used different emails, used different cc, used different incognito browsers, and cleared cache over 30 times and still getting the dreaded "contact us to complete your order"

It depends upon how bad you want the phone. I got the same web page. So I called them. The CSR wasn't familiar with that web page, but she processed my order anyway. I had to repeat everything I had just entered online, so that was a PITA, but the order went through. My Moto phone is arriving today.

last time I chatted with them they refused and said they can't handle "placing orders" as they updated their policy

I was very nice to her, and also asked her what could possibly do differently to make my order go through. I kept asking for her help and advice. In the end, she probably figured out that it would easier to just take my order to get me off the phone.

The way I look at it is, what have you got to lose other than some time? Like I said, it depends upon how bad you want the phone. And, kill the CSR with kindness. hug

can you root/unlock the bootloader before 180 days?
You can bootloader unlock this immediately.. I've done it after my month of service was up. I didn't root it yet though because I want to still get stock firmware updates.

Sim unlock will have to wait 180 days though.

You didn't need cancel, it will automatically suspend your account next month if you don't pay for next month
