Metro will activate the SIM within 2 weeks of your delivery date, but I don't think it will automatically activate your phone/trigger the device's internal unlock counter. You have to install the SIM and turn on the phone for that. I noticed my phone's unlock date was exactly 181 days after I put my SIM into the phone and not when the SIM was activated two weeks prior, so it was a good thing I put it into my phone before the first month was over. Might've had to pay for another month and start the counter from there.

Can confirm that I only spent money on the first month and kept it in a drawer afterwards for exactly 180 days after my SIM activated, but it said I wasn't eligible for a unlock until about 2 weeks later after that (180 days after I finally turned the phone on with the SIM inside). Bought this phone back in June (with the deal at discounted price with first month, not this better deal at free with first month) and unlocked just about 2 weeks ago.

The unlock setting (built into the phone, not a separate app) gives a very distinct, red X with message saying that I didn't reach the requisite 180 days to unlock the device, but that message about the 180 days disappeared after waiting a few weeks longer and in its place was a link to try a 'permanent unlock', which worked.

Phone arrived today and I opened this thread to ask about the case, so thanks for the confirmation.

Received the phone & it was manufactured in Jan 2023 which wasn't expected. I thought these were old phones sitting on the shelf.

Powered it up & T-mobile was sim was no go at boot up.

Thinking if I should buy another one vs the Samsung A23 as I'm used to the Samsung triple navigation with the back button on the right.
yap i wanna change the position of triple navigation . any clue?

Someone on the Samsung thread claimed that one needs to contact Metro to turn the autopay off. Can those already activated their phone confirm this is the case ? Or you can turn it off after logging in your account ? Thanks.

No. They're wrong. Unless you proactively signed up for Autopay.

I spent at least an hour trying to check out before I remembered the previous comments about the website not liking Chrome. Things went much more smoothly in DuckDuckGo, until I got to the final step of checkout, which threw up this error: "Something went wrong. Sorry, your request cannot be completed at this time. For additional assistance, find a store near you". I'm certainly not going to visit a store where I can be charged an activation fee and force-upsold insurance I don't need. I've never been a Metro customer and have never placed an order from them before, so there's no reason their system should have any issue with me placing an order. How hard is it to get them to take my money? 🤦🏼

edit: I already have a pending $40 charge on my credit card, even though "something went wrong". It may drop off, but the fact that they couldn't successfully complete the order (at least on the customer-facing end), but could successfully charge my card isn't a good sign.

How do you unlock the bootloader?
https://motorola-global-portal.cu...r-device-b

The instructions are pretty self-explanatory. It involves putting your phone into fastboot mode, getting a long string of characters, sending that back to Motorola, after which they'll email you a code unique to your phone.

A word of caution though: they'll cancel the rest of your warranty when they send you the code.

I just received the phone today. Put the SIM card into the phone and powered it up. The phone will recognize the Metro network, but at this point is not activated yet. Went to the Metro website to try to activate it, but of course I don't have the phone number to login.

A quick search through my emails, I found one from Metro which was sent to me when they shipped the phone. In that email there is a link to a webpage to track the shipping (the link to Metro's website, not to UPS). If you click on that and scroll all the way to the bottom, you'll find a ACTIVATE button. Click on this button, and it will activate the phone.

Now you just have to wait a few minutes and restart your phone. In my case I restarted it a couple of times with about ~ 5-10min wait. Voila the phone is now active and the phone number is listed under settings. Hope this help someone.
Your activation steps were very helpful! Thank you. Repped!

I just signed in after activating the phone. The Auto Pay for me OFF and I don't see my credit card info stored anywhere.

I got the same message when trying to place an order this afternoon. So i opened an incognito window and that order went through. However, when I checked my email a few minutes later, I received 2 order emails - different order numbers. So... we'll see if I end up with 2 phones.

Just placed an order. Instead of getting the usual 'order confirmed' screen, I got a "This is the default error message" screen. But I did receive an email order confirmation, so hopefully my order went through. I agree with others, the METRO ordering process is garbage.
If you got the email then pretty sure that you are good to go

It sounds like I just got lucky. I think it's a YMMV depending on what inventory T-Mo/Metro has on hand. I also choose to have a new number assigned by Metro.

I got the Metro sim card tied to the new number in the UPS box packaged on its own. The phone also came with a T-Mo sim card packaged as part of the documentation inside the N200 box (in the black sleeve). The T-Mo sim was packaged on a card next to the sim removal tool.
Many thanks for your reply - I wish I got both sims like you did!
