Metro will activate the SIM within 2 weeks of your delivery date, but I don't think it will automatically activate your phone/trigger the device's internal unlock counter. You have to install the SIM and turn on the phone for that. I noticed my phone's unlock date was exactly 181 days after I put my SIM into the phone and not when the SIM was activated two weeks prior, so it was a good thing I put it into my phone before the first month was over. Might've had to pay for another month and start the counter from there.

Can confirm that I only spent money on the first month and kept it in a drawer afterwards for exactly 180 days after my SIM activated, but it said I wasn't eligible for a unlock until about 2 weeks later after that (180 days after I finally turned the phone on with the SIM inside). Bought this phone back in June (with the deal at discounted price with first month, not this better deal at free with first month) and unlocked just about 2 weeks ago.

The unlock setting (built into the phone, not a separate app) gives a very distinct, red X with message saying that I didn't reach the requisite 180 days to unlock the device, but that message about the 180 days disappeared after waiting a few weeks longer and in its place was a link to try a 'permanent unlock', which worked.

Did you use the same or different CC for you and your wife? I tried using different names and addresses but it still didn't go through. I'm not sure if it's because I used the same last name. I don't want to use a random name with my address & CC because I want to make sure I receive the package as well if the order goes through.
Try different CC. Again it seems like they use multiple factors to determine whether you need to "contact them" and CC I think is one of them. The main thing for most people is that the shipping address must be the same. So if you can change other factors like internet connection (try tethering to your phone's hotspot or a company network), different CC, different computer, that seems to give you the best chance to submit a successful order.

Metro's offshore customer service reps cannot be counted upon for accuracy. The SIM activates automatically around 2 weeks following purchase.
I trust your input more than theirs. I only need the phone the month of april so it would work well for me if im not stuck paying for 2 months of service. If it comes to that I'll bit the bullet and have $80 into it.

I activated my phones immediately because I wanted to start the 180 day unlock timer.

The instructions are pretty self-explanatory. It involves putting your phone into fastboot mode, getting a long string of characters, sending that back to Motorola, after which they'll email you a code unique to your phone.

A word of caution though: they'll cancel the rest of your warranty when they send you the code.
The oem unlocking in developer options is greyed out now (received today), do you have to go through the process before it becomes un-greyed? Some googling mentions having to wait a week for new phones if greyed-out. Any info appreciated. Thanks!

I didn't do anything beyond enabling USB debugging under settings.

I can't comment on the 1 week wait thing because I can't really remember. But I suspect they were all towards the end of the first month, ie 3-4 weeks after activation.

Anyone know how to get a replacement? Mine won't recognize SIM and wifi won't even turn on.
I've tried multiple SIMs, reboots, wipes. It worked for a few minutes during setup and then never again.
I have SIM icon in upper right asking me to put in SIM.

Weird, I just got 160 mbps download, much faster than my home wifi. In a different metro area, city around 1 million.
That's pretty good. I live in a town of 100,000 and I am only getting 5G speeds of 48 Mbps download in my house (3 bars). shake head
Much lower than what T-mobile is claiming. 5G is overrated.

While that would work, in theory couldn't you put current sim in new phone and change devices in app since it's a metro locked phone it should recognize imei number. Then put new sim in old phone and activate that way to get around waiting a month. Or is new sim already tied to new phone imei?
Metro locks IMEI to the SIM. (I already tried swapping with 2 active phones and it didn't work.)

Now phone is completely dead. Pressed power button for a while to see if I could hard power it down but still no boot up.
Phone CSR says I have to visit a store since they can't auth the account without pin. Ugh...

So easy for those on the fence. Got email that phone was activated & account shows, 'You currently have no saved payment methods' & 'Pay in a snap w/autopay-Enroll now'.

Did anyone received their package but was small and did not have the phone in it? Seems like that's the case for me

5G signal does not penetrate inside a building as well as 4G. It also draws more power from the battery. Therefore, the additional speed of 5G rarely benefit a mobile phone. In a home environment where battery life and placement of the modem can be optimized, 5G can outperform cable internet.

You're overthinking this. The phone unlocks after 180 days of activated sim being used in the phone. I placed my activated sim cards in my phones (and made calls and sent texts) as soon as I got them in order to start that 180 day countdown ASAP. There is no app or setting on the phone that shows some days-remaining-until-unlock if that's what you think I implied existed ... just mark the 181th day on a calendar from when you first use the phone. And the sim cards being auto-activated isn't a phone specific thing (Moto vs. Samsung) but a Metro thing. Posts here and in all of the other Metro phone deal threads will state the same thing but definitely read up and educate yourself if you're skeptical of what random people (like me and others) post here.
