Metro will activate the SIM within 2 weeks of your delivery date, but I don't think it will automatically activate your phone/trigger the device's internal unlock counter. You have to install the SIM and turn on the phone for that. I noticed my phone's unlock date was exactly 181 days after I put my SIM into the phone and not when the SIM was activated two weeks prior, so it was a good thing I put it into my phone before the first month was over. Might've had to pay for another month and start the counter from there.

Can confirm that I only spent money on the first month and kept it in a drawer afterwards for exactly 180 days after my SIM activated, but it said I wasn't eligible for a unlock until about 2 weeks later after that (180 days after I finally turned the phone on with the SIM inside). Bought this phone back in June (with the deal at discounted price with first month, not this better deal at free with first month) and unlocked just about 2 weeks ago.

The unlock setting (built into the phone, not a separate app) gives a very distinct, red X with message saying that I didn't reach the requisite 180 days to unlock the device, but that message about the 180 days disappeared after waiting a few weeks longer and in its place was a link to try a 'permanent unlock', which worked.

I live in a metro but the signal is so weak. As a result, the mobile network is almost useless.

Anyway to adjust anything to enhance my mobile network??? Thanks!

Does anyone know if Mint Mobile sims work on this phone? They both use T-Mobile network towers.

I came across a few articles talking about T-Mobile is in talks with Mint Mobile about acquiring the company, which is owned by the actor Ryan Reynolds.

Configure the network to use 4G LTE using normal data.

What's the current consensus in terms of porting out the Metro #, and having the phone unlock after 6 months?

Notwithstanding the posts of CSRs saying it has to be 6mo of paid service, and the information in OP (provided by SD staff!) that it has to be 6mo of paid service, the actual terms seem clear that it just has to be 180 days since activation.

But in practice, if I port out after 3 weeks, will the phone likely unlock after 180 days, without having to fight with Metro? I like the Metro # and I'm thinking of porting it to Mint to get 12 months on the Pixel 7 offer. If that's likely to mess with the Metro unlock process, I'll find another way (buy a # somewhere).

Thanks.

I can't get hotspot to work. The $40 plan does not include hotspot tether. My laptop shows connected, no internet.
Their cheapest plan w/ hotspot is $50 according to their cust support line.
I tried USB-C and on the phone under hotspot and tethering checked USB tethering. Cannot connect to internet.

There used to be apps you could install on both phone and laptop to do this, like PDA net. Haven't tried those yet.

I can't get android NetShare app to work.

Hope this phone will hotspot using another MVNO in 6 months.
I like know if the USB C ethernet tether works on this phone or not.

i ordered the N200, it works on android 11 ,it stop working after upgrade to android 12

the ethernet tether option got removed on android 12 (N200)

this usbc ethernet with charger port, it can charge the phone while connect to the phone usbc port.

Sharing your phone's cellular data connection with PC whether by wifi hotspot or usb C tether would probably be restricted by Metro's plan. If you don't pony up for an extra $10/mo I think you'd be shut out either way. Once this phone is unlocked in 6 months you can switch to another cheaper plan that allows hotspot/tether. In the meantime, according to previous posts, the paid version of PDAnet+

http://pdanet.co/buy/

enables hotspot and probably usb c tether as well. Searching google it looks like there are versions of this that could be sideloaded for free, but the $7.95 is probably worth it. I'm pretty sure I paid for the app way back in the freedompop days, but have since lost the serial nbr.

edit: I mis-read your question. There is an option for Ethernet tethering (share phone's internet connection via ethernet) under Hotspot and tethering. So I would assume that it works, but not sure. If it does, is it both ways? Does the phone get ethernet speeds?

I could have sworn that the contract never mentioned NO HOTSPOT. Only unlimited high speed data. Hotspot is also data. If there is no disclaimer that HOTSPOT data is not included or limited to XXXmb, then the company is committing fraud. The FCC should be contacted about this issue.

No it's not fraud. The fact that hotspot is not mentioned should have been a clue, but I missed it myself and assumed it was included. It's kinda like rental car companies crippling the cars built in navigation so they can sell it to you by the day.

You paid for data. Is hotspot DATA? I've never paid for data that does not allow for hotspot. If the data is unlimited, then the vendor may add a clause that limit hotspot DATA to xx mb per month. Another common approach is to limit hotspot DATA to xx kbps once the user has exceeded xx mb. The $50 T Mobile home internet has unlimited hotspot data. The $10 T Mobile mobile internet caps hotspot data to xx mb per month. Why would anyone pay $40 Metro plan with unlimited data and no hotspot?

Fraudulent behavior = enforce terms that are not spelled out in the contract. If NO HOTSPOT DATA is not in the contract, then it doesn't exist. Let the FCC review the complaints. I'm 90% confident that Metro is at fault. It costs $0 to file a complaint.

FCC: Why did you disabled hotspot DATA when it doesn't cost you additional money?
METRO: Because that would prevent some people from signing up.
FCC: Did you informed the customer that hotspot DATA is not included in this plan?
METRO: No
FCC; That's fraudulent advertising. Customer should get a partial refund, or full refund of the purchase price with Metro paying for the return shipping.

When your plan terminates for non renewal, should the signal bar show no service at all and no bars?

No bars.

And if you expand the status bar you'll see "emergency calls only."

I'll put this phone on red pocket when it unlocks in 6 mo. Their conditions are rather vague
https://help.redpocket.com/are-te...cket-plans
so you have to contact them to see if it works. It works on my att sim but not the cdma with android, also my moto g 2021 doesn't work at all on att because it isn't whitelisted even though the phone has the bands. There are no 'contracts' with RP mvno.
This 128gb phone isn't currently offered but the 64gb is
https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/c...0214674142
if you scroll down to the bottom of the page it states "Not all phones or features available on all service plans."
So that probably covers their ass. They suck for more reasons than this and I certainly won't be using their service past the first included month. For $40 it is a good deal tho, and you can always install PDAnet+ in the meantime to hotspot ($8 for the app for lyfe)
