Metro will activate the SIM within 2 weeks of your delivery date, but I don't think it will automatically activate your phone/trigger the device's internal unlock counter. You have to install the SIM and turn on the phone for that. I noticed my phone's unlock date was exactly 181 days after I put my SIM into the phone and not when the SIM was activated two weeks prior, so it was a good thing I put it into my phone before the first month was over. Might've had to pay for another month and start the counter from there.

Can confirm that I only spent money on the first month and kept it in a drawer afterwards for exactly 180 days after my SIM activated, but it said I wasn't eligible for a unlock until about 2 weeks later after that (180 days after I finally turned the phone on with the SIM inside). Bought this phone back in June (with the deal at discounted price with first month, not this better deal at free with first month) and unlocked just about 2 weeks ago.

The unlock setting (built into the phone, not a separate app) gives a very distinct, red X with message saying that I didn't reach the requisite 180 days to unlock the device, but that message about the 180 days disappeared after waiting a few weeks longer and in its place was a link to try a 'permanent unlock', which worked.

I'll put this phone on red pocket when it unlocks in 6 mo. Their conditions are rather vague
https://help.redpocket.com/are-te...cket-plans
so you have to contact them to see if it works. It works on my att sim but not the cdma with android, also my moto g 2021 doesn't work at all on att because it isn't whitelisted even though the phone has the bands. There are no 'contracts' with RP mvno.
This 128gb phone isn't currently offered but the 64gb is
https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/c...0214674142
if you scroll down to the bottom of the page it states "Not all phones or features available on all service plans."
So that probably covers their ass. They suck for more reasons than this and I certainly won't be using their service past the first included month. For $40 it is a good deal tho, and you can always install PDAnet+ in the meantime to hotspot ($8 for the app for lyfe)
There is zero difference between phone data and hotspot data. If the term said unlimited data, then the data should apply to phone and hostpost. As written, the feature could be service available between 12 am and 6 am EST or anything Metro says as a feature of the $40 unlimited data plan.

The top three carriers in the US are ATT, T Mobile, and Verizon. Not counting this plan, can you point out an unlimited data plan by these carriers that disable hotspot data? Remember, we're paying $40/month, not $5/month for unlimited data. My $25/month no contract T Mobile plan provides 4GB/month of non-throttled data (phone and hotspot).

When your plan terminates for non renewal, should the signal bar show no service at all and no bars?
Should be no service.

Metro $50 and $60 plans include a limited amount of hotspot data (see the plans). None in the $40 plan.

I got on this deal and I see 10GB Hotspot included in $40 plan. Are others not seeing it?

I see it, too. But when I connect to hotspot I get No Internet message. I got on chat yesterday and the CS rep said:

Anne: Checking here you got the $40 Unlimited plan and this does not include mobile hotspot. The mobile hotspot is included on our $50& $60 plans.
Anne: Great news! We can upgrade your plan to $50 and you'll have 5GB mobile hotspot access, cool?
You: No thanks, maybe later.
Anne: Oh I see, that's alright. Anytime when you're ready, you can always let us know.
You: quick question: it does say on my dashboard 0.0MB used of 10GB under Mobile Hotspot.
You: Sort of implies that 10GB should be available.
Anne: Excellent question! Glad you asked that, it may confuse us especially if it shows there is a 10GB available. But it will allow you to use the hotspot if it's included on your plan.
Anne: You may see a progress on your hotspot usage if you're able to consume the hotspot included on the plan.
On their reddit sub, a district manager said $40 plans came with hotspot. When informed it didn't, he said it probably changed with the recent promo. Confused

This is what I see from 'My Metro' details
Open My Metro Apps > Tap on Plan details then scroll down to the bottom

I'm pretty sure hotspot is not included...

"Great news: we can charge you even more money." How is that great news? That's horrible news.

Right. If they're not going to give me either more for my money, or the same for less money, it's not good news for me.

No problem running 5GUC on the phone. Speed approaching 400Mbps. No problem setting up and connecting to a PC using hotspot from Motorola. Issue is that PC shows no data.

I'm filing a complaint with the FCC. Cost nothing to file online. Would recommend others affected by this scam to also file.

"NO MOBILE HOTSPOT" is not shown at the time of purchase. You find out after you paid the $ and setup the account. That's fraud.

Lol. Good luck with that. Make sure you have the original deal screenshot that shows that it included hotspot, otherwise, you are SOL.

I bought this device via the same deal in Dec. And it is a great device. However, the wait time of 180 days for unlocking it is kind of bummer. If you are ok with that long of wait time, its a good device.
I just got my phone, but how to cancel the autopay. I login to the My Metro app, it shows Your balance is due April 8th. Do I have to call in a day before to cancel it or it will auto charge me if I don't cancel the plan,?
