Mildly intrigued .... I have a 15yr old Xerox color laser that's starting to struggle a bit and my kids often have a need to print out good looking pages for school. Any downside to the larget form-factor other than footprint? I see replacement inks are very reasonably priced... what about heads drying out? What if a certain color isn't used for a while? Old cheapy inkjets had this issue, does this non-cheapy not have such issues if not used for some length of time?

I need a printer just for occasional document printing. Is this worth it over a similarly priced laser jet?

This was my very first printer. Purchased it the first week that it was released and 2 years later it has not had 1 single issue. If you are looking for an all in one printer that produces excellent colors, sleek form factor, and generously sized touch screen, then this is definitely for you. 2 years later and I've not had any issues at from my et 8550. I now own maybe 10 or so epson printers ranging from 13 inches to 24 inches and yet the et-8550 is still my favorite and go to printer. Awesome deal indeed!! I think I paid just over $800 for mine, and even at that price it was well worth it. I'm tempted to jump on this deal myself but the Mrs says next printer that comes into the house I need to keep the box to sleep in lol....... Decisions decisions 😂
Happy Mrs happy Mr sir

I have an eco tank (not this one) and the nozzles will dry out if you don't use them for a quite long extended time - you can run the power clean function and it'll work again though - downside is that that function uses a bit of ink but as you said the replacement inks are cheap.

How are the quality of the photo prints? Similar to the 6 color Canon Pixma ip8720?

Not sure the time for them to get that way but it's been months without using colors for me.

Generally you shouldn't go months without printing unless you like doing Cleans, wasting ink, and smashing printers lol. If you are not printing on a regular basis I would recommend to at least print a test page every 10 or so days

Great deal. Really happy with mine though I wish I had gotten for this price! Lower than the smaller et 8500! Nice find!
It started out at this price and went up as it continued to sell out.

Best printer I've ever owned. Cheapest too. Would have went through over 200 ink cartridges by now if I got the brand name. I haven't used up half of what the printer came with.

I don't have 10 printers at home but have had over 20 printers in my lifetime. I have 4 of those ecotank printers right now (because we also use transfer ink to print mugs and t-shirts). So those are my own observations:
1. It's super economical to print them because those inks last a really, really long time.
2. Because they last a very long time and we are using the same print heads instead of a new one with every cartridge, they will clog if you don't print at least a couple times a week.
3. I have 2 Epson non ecotank printers that are a bit more professional than this. They have 11 colors instead of 6. Some people can't tell the difference between their photos side by side, some can, especially when you print something large. Therefore, this is not quite good enough for "proof".
4. Having said that, the printing cost is about 10 times higher on those professional 11 color printers.
5. Also, you can use non Epson ink (such as our dye ink) for arts and craft. You can buy them for super cheap (but I don't know how good they are in the long run).
