these are fine for a simple project like adding some colored lights to your headboard for video streaming in your bedroom. but if you want something more expandable/customizable/versitile, go with sk6811 and esp8266

The prices are actually significantly lower than Govee lights have been historically. Govee has the best app for strip lights. I have the RGBIC strips and they have a big community of users on the app who make new routines for the lights and share them, so you can use any of those or make your own routines with pretty sophisticated options. I've had a ton of strip lights from different manufacturers and theirs is the only app anywhere near as good, so I started paying the premium for Govee for that reason,
The individual color (IC) is being thrown on this product for people to be wowed and miss the fact that the light density is terrible and will create hotspots everywhere, leaving you disappointed.

I'd rather buy a dumb string of white lights with a minimum 60 LEDs/M than an RGBIC with 18/M; where a diffuser couldn't even save you.

Yes and if you plan to use these on a switch-controlled plug look elsewhere - the ~3-4 second power-up time is unacceptable for this use case.

You probably want to make sure you're getting a strip with 150, 300, or 600 lights (for 16', 32', 65') and not 90/180/360. This is listed under "product information" on the Amazon pages. It looks like the RGBIC listed on this post is the lower density, whereas these have the higher density:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07N1BGP7B

The higher density of lights, 30 per meter, is not particularly high already. I don't have the lower density (18 per meter), but reviews were disappointed by the lower number of lights.

There is usually some sort of coupon on these lights. Some of the prices on this post look pretty regular, but some might be low. You'd have to compare to previous Slickdeals posts since I don't think coupons come up on camelcamelcamel.

I'm assuming you're stating this because you feel these cannot be controlled locally. However, the model (H6154) listed in this post might be capable of local control.

I cannot guarantee is has local control ability, but according to a list of supported local control LAN ability lights for Govee, it lists the model (H6154) as a model that should have LAN support.

If this does have LAN support, it can be activated in Govee's app and with Home Assistant, you can install a Govee LAN Control integration via HAC which should be capable of controlling the lights locally.

If anyone is planning on buying a Govee light strip to see if can be controlled via you LAN, make sure to check the model number with the list I link below to see if has LAN support ability.

I'm almost tempted to buy this just to see if it has LAN control.

His post is alluding to being more open and customizable for projects such as diy ambilights and light show installations. I believe one of the bigger restrictions is that all Govee devices have a hard rate limit to how often you can send commands through the API. Their documentation lists it as 10k per day and 10 per minute per device.

I have Govee strip lights. I would not buy another as they have a major design problem rendering these useless in most situations. If the strip lights come with their remote you are going to have problems. Your TV remote buttons will turn it on and off since they have same frequency.

That's what happened to that Kaza Kaza light bulb I got for $5 around the holidays. I gave that thing RIGHT BACK as it was going off, blinking in the middle of the night waking me up. It was very annoying.

All should be able to be, just don't expect to use the cut off strip.

some of these Govee lights are compatible with Razer Chroma ecosystem and can be individually controlled from your PC with razer synapse 3 software because of the RGBIC

I had these govee led strips. I installed them behind my gaming desk and never turned them off. They lasted 5 months on non stop, before leds started to burn out. So life is around 3600 hours on non stop. I find that short seeing LEDs last an average of 100k hours usually.

The post you're replying to is talking about direct local control over the LAN API [govee.com] which provides equivalent functionality to a DIY setup including HA and HomeKit integration. It does not have the limitations of the online API.

I bought the 71A1 RGBIC light because it's 30 leds per meter.

I have a studio apartment and the 65'.6 strip wraps around the whole base board of my apartment. I also got the Dream View with light bars and 4 Govee 1200 Lumens smart bulbs. They work pretty well in Dream View mode. Takes a minute to sync when I turn it on but all the lights work well together especially in the video color capture mode. I also put the LED strip in light diffusers they sell on Amazon which makes it look a lot more clean than the bare LEDs stuck on with 2 way tape. Google Home and Alexa integration makes controlling, and setting timers really easy. Definitely worth the money and I would feel like something is missing without my Govee system.

Don't really understand the differences, is more expensive assumed to be better?

Edit: I guess RGBIC allows multiple colors at same time instead of entire strip having same color.

Some are Bluetooth, some Wifi. Then different lengths.
