Huh. Okay. Well a standard external mechanical hard drive will read write data about 100mbps and the mx500 ssd will read write data about 500mbps. So it's a lot less waiting when your transferring data back and forth.

If your upgrading a computer that has a mechanical hard drive with one of these, it's the difference of waiting a full minute for the computer to turn on, to waiting only 15 seconds for the computer to turn on with the mx500 ssd

I have to replace a ps3 hdd… I know it's overkill and wouldn't grant much of a performance boost, but would this work in theory just from the storage perspective?

on my modded ps2, there is a 9-10 second difference between a regular 1tb HDD and a 1tb SSD when loading up Open PS2 Loader to display the 100+ games

I just installed the 2tb version on a fairly recent, high end desktop.

To boot up Windows and my startup apps was taking 10 minutes with the hdd.

Now takes less than 30 seconds.

Apps are faster and it is not as groggy waking from sleep. Highly recommended but confirm any installation settings and have a bracket to put it into the current location/bay.

You'll probably still notice the difference with faster loading of games and cutscenes. But it will work as storage too

Apparently Crucial dropped the amount of RAM in these from 1 gig per terabyte to a flat 512MB, but kept the same model # (except the 4TB, which always had 512GB RAM). I suspect they did so because even with less RAM the bottleneck is still the SATA interface, but I haven't seen benchmarks. It's probably fine and if you truly need the higher performance you should be going with NVMe anyway.
