This is some ok decent pricing, but not as good as Ryzen 5000 though from a budget oriented perspective.

CPU, mobo, RAM, and SSD prices are actually reasonable now, it's a shame GPU pricing has lots it mind. I really hope Intel doesn't abandon the discrete GPU market as more competition is needed to bring down prices.

What's the deal with the i7-12700 (not K or KF)? Not listed on Amazon, Newegg or Microcenter. Was it not sold retail? Wound up getting the "K" version even though I don't want to overclock.
the "K" variants are better even if you do not overclock. Higher IPC. Look at benchmarks and you will see.

General use. Web, spreadsheets, photo editing, occasional non-intensive games.
12600k would be more than enough for your use case. If you have a discrete GPU, you might spend the extra money and get the 12700kf.

Huh. When someone has a budget of 1000$ for EVERYTHING. The ryzen was the winner. An i5 12600k was gonna put it 60-100$ more. An i9 was gonna put it 300-400$ above budget lol

But there's also some deals on Intel 11th gen that was considered but ultimately it came down to motherboard and features and pairing a cpu with an rtx 2070 that was gonna make sense.

I'm not trying to say anything negative against this post. I'm just saying if someone had a strict budget even the 12600k wasn't gonna be enough of a deal at 200$

All good and fair points. I was responding to you comment that "The 12th gen would have put it 60-100$ over budget", which since you make it as a blanket statement seemed to put every one of these chips together as the same thing. Thus why I said I'm not sure you meant to lump every 12th Gen chip together.

$1000 for literally everything is nearly impossible for a gaming rig these days. My hat's off to you if you made that work. A solid GPU alone can eat a lot of it, given that "Best budget GPU" lists are currently showing products that are $300 or more.

I completely get the trade off of staying within budget and sacrificing some performance, makes sense to me and I do it personally as well for my rig. But if somehow you'd been able to get the i9-12900KS for only $100 more which is what at least my reading of your original post implied, that seems like a worthwhile $100. The difference in CPU would likely extend the useful life of the machine by a couple years.

I am not sure, why people are so negative about intel. I know intel are not meeting expectations and performing bad when compared in terms of benchmarks . But for a regular user like me with little gaming, with little video editing and vfx (use unreal engine) . I switched from intel to amd ryzen 7 and again back to intel i7 now and I always used nvidia mid tier graphic cards, as all the softwares run better with intel and if I use any Linux distribution over windows I see much more benefits. I still go with intel for practical purposes.
It's a fanboy thing. The whole 1080p benchmark numbers has every fanboy's panties in a bunch. Intel 12th and 13th Gen do use a lot of power and become difficult to cool because of it, especially the 13900K. It's an unavoidable fact 13th Gen is on a 10nm process while Zen 4 is on a 5nm process. Despite the power inefficiency, one still has to admit that somehow Intel's architecture is able to squeeze out such performance from such a much inferior node is a testament to engineering. One that may play a vital role in the future if we ever get to a point where node shrinkage slows down. Either way, competition is only a good thing. If Intel didn't get trounced, they'd stop innovating and likewise with AMD.

People forget or don't realize that all these CPUs are binned for their designations. Chances are a K SKU has a better V/F curve than a non-K SKU and even if you don't overclock it may run cooler due to lower voltage requirements for the same frequencies.

An example would be my old 13900K at V/F point for 5400MHz the voltage required is 1.319V while on my 13900KS it's 1.254V.

YMMV still as it's silicon lottery but there's a better average going up product tiers. Whether or not it's worth the money is a different factor altogether.

12th gen is end of the line for that socket and platform. I personally would go for 13+ gen if I was going to buy new.
