This drive has a rating of 440 TBW, which would be 24 years writing 50 GB per day. Are you writing 50 GB per day to your drive? And if you are, how much do you think it will cost to replace this drive in 24 years?
The analogy here is a car with a 1,000,000 mile 5 year warranty. No normal person is going to exceed 1M miles in 5 years. Worrying about getting a 1.5M mile warranty with the same 5 year warranty isn't going to be anymore valuable for anyone.

Going to have gen 5 on my board, but decided to stick with the sk hynix for now I think. Research suggests TBW is higher on that one and really I won't utilize these speeds anytime soon unless direct storage takes off...
The P5 2tb version is on sale at Besbuy for 122 and it comes with a free Insignia PS5 heatsink.

Amazon price matched this to the $101 price. So it would be cheaper to get it on Amazon if you have their CC

Unfortunately it has the same issue. TBW on the sk hynix is double what the crucial drives are. I'll hold out and see if direct storage gets better, and I'll just buy a gen 5 then to get the additional throughput. They should be much cheaper by then as well!
Same story for TBW. The (now ancient) TechReport study on write endurance [techreport.com] of SSDs showed that even slamming SSDs with constant IOs they all lasted way longer than the rated "TBW." Few people are likely to have their drives fail because they've written too much data to them.
Poor Micron...(owns the Crucial brand).
