The reviews on their site are hilarious. 80% of them are from people who received them for free in exchange for the review, and it's pretty clear that they have no idea what it even is. But they still try to say how great it is by regurgitating whatever they glean from the title and description. It's like book reports from kids who clearly didn't read the book.
My personal favorites (they work especially well if you read them in choppy nervous kid BSing a book report voice): "I love how the Z-Wave Plus Direct Wire Indoor/Outdoor Lighting Appliance Control Smart Switch simplifies my life. You can really have the smart home of your dreams with this device! Very simple to use and operate. I would definitely recommend this to all my family and friends who love technology"
"This review is for the GE Z-Wave Plus Direct Wire Indoor/Outdoor Lighting Appliance Control Smart Switch. I received this last week and installed it in my house. It is very easy to use and is great for controlling the lighting in your home. I would recommend this product"
I always count on in DestinyB85 and LauraC for my Smart Home reviews, so I'm glad Jasco reached out to them to get feedback
Personally, I would stay away from Jasco unless they've had an increase in quality.
I've had about a 50% failure rate of their Z-Wave GE branded switches but maybe I've just gotten a bad batch of switches. Seems like the relay had failed in all of mine within a year.
Conversely, Lutron Caseta has had no failures and have about 20 installed for several years but don't believe they offer a switch that can handle this high amperage or voltage combination.
Read the post you quoted again...you're not wrong but neither are they

I'm curious what use case there is for a dryer with a smart switch (other than just as a safety lockout/child proofing/etc.).
TOU pricing to run at night when electricity is cheapest. Only applies if you have an electric dryer on 240v. If it's just a 120v gas dryer then you can put any old dumb timer on it.
53$ - Suraielec WiFi Pool Timer, Outdoor Indoor Smart Switch, 40 AMP, 2HP, 120, 240, 277 VAC, Heavy Duty Pool Controller Light Timer Box for Pool Pump, Water Heater, Spa, Powerful Electrical Appliances
I installed 3 of this each 50$ for my Pool Pump and SWG and SPA.
Control using the same Smart life App. Stable Connection so far for the past 2 years.
For 99$ its not worth it.
Back when you could pick up the Suraielec units for $35, they were a steal as long as you were okay with WiFi vs Zwave. I consulted on a pool automation system that used them last summer, with positive feedback, especially after introducing the user to Tasmota so they could ditch the Smart Life App.
Another comparable WiFi option is the DEWENWILS[amazon.com], which has a metal enclosure, external antenna, and is UL listed.
I have the GE version connected to a pool pump and 0 problems. It monitors power & energy. I have triggers set so I know when the filter needs cleaning and it will also shut off when the pressure builds or when it decreases pass a setpoint. Going on 4 years.

I picked up a Suraielec just last week. What is the benefit of Tasmota and do you have a link for more information on it?

It's an open-source firmware you flash to the ESP8266 based Tuya TYWE3S WiFi chip inside the unit, and allows local access to your switch without having to rely on the Tuya cloud. It also allows you to customize the device how you see fit, both from a hardware perspective (I believe the owner added a CT clamp so they could have power monitoring, a feature that was not offered on the stock unit), and software perspective (custom schedules, integrating with Alexa/Google voice assistants, or whatever smart ecosystem you have in place.)
Its nice for pre-built ready to go. Of course you can easily build a jbox with a contactor driven off a standard zwave switch etc. At this price though itd be about the same cost. So its def a decent deal
I bought this a month ago at the same price. I received a faulty unit and despite providing video of my wiring and a long call it still took a week to get approved for RMA and another week an a half to receive replacement.
The replacement has been working great. The range is very good.
Can I use this to turn off my outdoor vehicle charging station? I live in a busy area don't want some random Tesla parking in my charging area to steal my power!?
You have an accessible breaker on your public parking spot?

As someone who just bought a house with a pool this past summer, I'm hoping to get a setup like this. I actually have a pool shed that houses the pump, so I don't think I need anything this weather resistant. The pump is a bit old, so I'm not sure how you have it set up to test for pressure.
All this pool stuff is definitely a little intimidating.. I also need to replace the light in the pool, which seems like a stupidly expensive fix..
This GE is built better than the comparable alternatives, but they're all basically just a wireless radio paired with a 240V contactor, stuffed in a NEMA 3R box (sometimes, even forgoing the enclosure in the case of the Aeotec). If you look at the Migro[amazon.com] (WiFi) version, it's literally a $10 Sonoff Basic and $20 contactor mounted in a $30 box, marked up to $130.
$100 for a Zwave connected, UL listed, 40A switch with power monitoring in a NEMA 3R metal enclosure is definitely a fair price, but if you don't have a Zwave hub, or are faced with MSRP pricing, AND KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING, you can put together something for quite a bit cheaper.
Yes, I did this exactly for my pool and sprinkler pump. I've moved and I'm trying to decide if just the power monitoring is worth it. I could just put a multiplier on the power monitoring for the sonoff and be pretty close.

Speaking of GE/Jasco quality, just wanted to share my stats...
In 2017 l bought (from Lowes) and installed about 30 in-wall GE dimmers and about 5 in-wall GE switches. Both z-wave plus and non-plus versions.
Since then I've had zero issues with dimmers, but already replaced switches 3 times, or so. Unlike dimmers, it feels like switches (that have relays inside) have weaker surge protection and higher risk of getting burned by the power outages. At least that's my impression.
Personally, I won't trust Jasco spending $100 on this 40A switch, or at least would consider some extra warranty.
