I have a G-shock and smartwatch, and much prefer the G-shock for everyday wear. I don't really use the wrist features of a smartwatch much, and the G-shock has many other advantages.

If Casio ever makes a solar G-Shock smartwatch, fully loaded with GPS, fitness tracking, etc... I'm all in.
But you go on ahead with that beeper and pay phone. Keep hand cranking that Ford's Model T! VHS Is better than DVD!
I've used the mibands (amazing 20+ day battery life) but it looks tacky vs a real watch.
So until we can get at least a few weeks (would love a month) battery life on a smartwatch that looks halfway decent, then regular watches still have their place.

Their GM2100s are sexy and have bluetooth connectivity, but it seems to still be in its infancy.
Same concern. Tempted to jump on the AE1500 deal that was recently posted ...

If you charge your phone, charging your watch isn't an issue. The folks shilling for old watches that are unitaskers are just trying to keep their market alive so they have jobs. You'll hear these people spout nonsense like:
"I can dive with my watch 200m deep...though I never dive, but I'd rather know that I can dive 200m, than be able to see my emails, text, weather, make calls, with a smartphone!"
I have a rolex, but I rarely if ever wear that old tech as it is pretty much useless. I'd rather not have to pull out my smartphone to check my texts, calls or emails, when I can quickly check my smartwatch in a business meeting.
I have a G-Shock GA100-1A1 (similar to this SD), Swiss, Italian, and Japanese watches, along with a Samsung Galaxy watch, but prefer the look and durability of my analog/mechanical watches. I know Apple and Samsung smartwatches can cost upwards of $500-700, but they still look cheap, fragile, and tacky to me. I'll wear my Galaxy or Garmin watches when working out, but the rest of the time I prefer traditional watches; I don't think that makes me a flat-earther. Different strokes for different folks.
To stay on topic, I think these G-Shocks are hard to beat for durability, as many in the armed services who sport them do too, and this price is a great deal.
Do NOT get a negative display watch for easy readability. Yes this also has hands but almost all negative comments on every shock with a negative display is that it's hard to read. I don't mind the negative display personally but if your already concerned about readability I wouldn't recommend it.

I wish Casio would do a smart G-Shock right. I got the amazfit Trex (v1) and like it for the battery and style, but it only looks like a G-Shock to the uninformed at a distance. Trex is advertised as rugged, but it's hard to compare to my 1980's era G-Shock even and I can tell it will probably die after 5 years or so
You charge your smartphone, you can charge your smartwatch.
You can also charge your EV during a road trip.... but i think ill just fill up my hybrid in a couple mins & change out the coin cell battery on a quartz watch with a sh*tty dollar screwdriver set and possibly get another 2 years of "maintenance free" runtime outta it.
Not hating on a smartwatch. Just waiting on a battery tech breakthrough since it seems most of the tech companies have squeezed every nanometer of cpu efficiency in this form factor. Shillin 300-500 for an apple watch every 3 years or even an 80 dollar battery replacement is ridiculous.
I just changed the battery for the first time today โ it's held up really well.
1) much larger in person than photos, feels a bit clunky on the wrist
2) backlight is utterly useless
3) buttons are flush with the watch body, can be difficult to press in
