Not to hate on Cirque du Soleil, but Las Vegas it not the place it once was. I recommend anyone trying to plan a vacation like this instead consider Waikiki or if gambling is a must, Macau. Don't waste your time or money getting ripped off in LV.

The strip (where most people visit) has become very rundown/dirty. Most of the hotels are very dirty. In addition, there are lots and lots of scams. Avoid "timeshare" presentations, they are pushed everywhere, and are often sold (yes, sold) as packages to see shows like Cirque du Soleil. Hotels are charging less for rooms, but are pilling on hidden fees. Most major hotels on the strip charge $50+ per day for "resort fee", even though half of the restaurants are closed down, the pool is dirty, the hot tub is out of order, etc. And lastly, the "good deal" buffets of the past are way gone. Now, good buffets will cost $45+ per person. The cheap buffets are beyond gross and should be avoided at all costs.

For those reasons, I recommend waiting for a slickdeal to Oahu and getting a 3 or 4 star hotel from Priceline anywhere on Waikiki, and NOT renting a car. Walking down the "strip" on Kalakau gives me vibes of how Las Vegas used to be. All of the luxury brands are there, there are really good buffet and meal options (Duke's breakfast brunch is amazing for $20), etc.
