I bought the 15" model last October for $300 (has numeric keypad), works great. The webcam is poor quality. Speakers are okay. The screen is a decent ips (no issues with it falling out like some reported in previous deal threads). They keyboard is nothing special. A tad heavy but it uses metal/limited plastic so build quality is average. The battery only lasts ~3hrs unplugged w battery saver browsing web/watching youtube/movies.
It has older wifi 5 & bt 5. One thing I noticed though is my HDMI output can only do 4k at 30fps, not 60fps so not really watchable. 1080p HD looks fine hooking up to TV though. I'm not sure about the usb-c output resolution.
It has a hatch in the back to add a backup m2 ssd drive (Leven JM600 1tb $40 off amazon).
Given that it's still very snappy. Have 2 of them and work just fine.

Would this one be better for $20 more?
Out of commission for 3 weeks? Were you able to get it sent for warranty work (Gateway or Walmart extended Wty)? Do you know if any of the other components were compromised due to the battery swelling? Pls keep us posted on what happens. I'm interested in this bargain laptop but hesitant due to the reviews lasting less than a year. Thanks
Also with the battery swelling being an issue would it be a bad idea to have this plugged and constantly powered on or charging?
Excuse my ignorance.

Great key specs.
Bad keyboard, bad touchpad, fingerprint reader didn't work, screen was pretty good.
For some reason, youtube 4k/hdr streamed great on the screen, but when I went to HDMI out, it'd drop about half of the frames per stats for nerds. Different computer connected to the same HDMI cable and tv, no dropped frames.
The shallow keyboard, touchpad that felt "loose" and "crunched" when you tried long pressing it, and the fail on driving an external monitor made me return it without hesitation.
So if you're going to use it with a wireless kb/mouse, you aren't counting on 4k/60 output from the HDMI, and you can't afford more...it'd be good.
1) Go to https://www.microsoft.c
2) Login to windows on your laptop, hold the SHIFT key down on the keyboard, then hit Windows Start -> Power -> restart. Keep the SHIFT button pressed for ~1 minute until Windows boots into recovery mode.
3) On the recovery screen, select "Use a device" option and follow on-screen instructions to re-install Windows. You can format all the drives during the screen asking you to select a drive, that way you will have a 512GB single drive too install windows into. The installation will create recovery partitions on its own as needed (so you will loose ~200 MB or so to it).

The process from that point takes an hour or so, depending on the speed of your USB drive.
I did not notice any speed-up with clean install (not as much as the BIOS changes atleast), but I prefer that since when I create new users it starts from a clean state with no bloatware.
