That's concerning. Just ordered one yesterday. Someone figured ordering two and keeping the better of them. Just didn't want to put that much on my card at once
Is this receiver overkill for my setup? If so, what receivers are recommended for 3.1 setups?

Yes it would be overkill and I would suggest finding a used one that has the features you use/need.
This will cost much less and actually put you in a higher tier model.
1. Front display can't be set to display audio info (like Atmos), only the name of the active input. You can scroll through the display info with the remote, but that's all.
2. Drops center channel under certain conditions.
3. Overall inconsistent in recognizing and relaying the appropriate audio.
These same bugs, or preferences in the case of the display, are commonly mentioned in other threads on this receiver, and have been for the past few years.
I updated its firmware and have quality hdmi cables. My Yamaha TSR-7850 did not have these problems with all the same gear attached.
I'm going for the Yamaha RX-A6A.

Damn, so how do you know if you're actually getting Atmos or what format is actually being output?
Alternatively, you scroll through the display info with the remote.

Well, here's hoping mine arrives in good condition. Price went up $100 for open box.
Damn, guess I'll be using pioneers correction software then. I have the Onkyo add ons since I live in an apartment
I hope others had better luck than me.
