Don't look at someone's phone and judge them if they are rich or poor. There are rich people with old cheap phones and there are definitely "poor" people who paid +$1k on phones and paying high monthly plans that they really shouldn't be.

Ummm. You do realize that the phone works during the first months with calls, texts and data? Some people would be happy to use unlimited data in that first month. All those apps, games, camera, etc. work with or without service. Lot of people use multiple phones. I do. Lot of people have lots of wifi outside their home especially with some cable service they may use.

* I have a Pixel 6a and I do like it but it has its cons. The battery life isn't that good and the screen is little bit too small at 6.1" for my liking for browsing chrome/youtube so I prefer to use my other larger screen phones with the big battery at home or my Samsung tablet at home when browsing chrome or YouTube. For me to use my Pixel 6a for browsing chrome/YouTube is wasting battery on a phone that already doesn't have solid battery life and just not that good of experience on 6.1" screen vs my larger screen phones. Answer? Large screen phone with solid battery or tablet.

* 6 months goes by quicker than you think. People aren't like upgrading their phones after every 2 months and it is "so needed" to upgraded from their phone. Patience is a virtue especially for Slickdealers who know a good bang for the buck phone deal or knows money saving tips on deals.

for those new to M deals.

suggest

read wiki

lots of good info

trust me

here is sample:

To have the phone unlock automatically in 180 days (6 months)

You need to have activated the phone 180 days ago.
You do not. repeat do NOT have to pay for service 180 days

the above has been true for most every metro deal in the past.
both apple and android

Most people get the 1 month service.
Then simply place phone in a drawer .
wait 6 months.

The sim can be left in phone or stored safely.
It does not matter, as long as you DO NOT THROW AWAY THE SIM until you get a confirmed unlock

Phone should/will unlock in ~180 days + 6 -10 days.

best chance of success as follows:
During the ~6 month wait.
YOU can use as wifi device.
keep sim in phone.
when getting near the 180 day , have phone connected to wi-fi.
Try to unlock the device, once 1-2 days from day 180 onwards.

- None of us knows when Metro is going to close this unofficial loophole, .
-However this has been in effect with Metro phone deals for last ~4-5 years

Exercise your own judgement,

just got my second A54. But I was away for a week and my wife/kids opened the package and took out the phone and seem to have thrown away the SIM card.

any experience going about getting a new one?
visit a store to activate it on esim. Bring id too. Or pay $10+ for a new sim. Cant do anything online with customer service. Because they have to send you a security code to your phone. You dont have sim card so you cant confirm the code. They will tell you go to store.

Sim card is in the brown envelope. It looks like a padded return envelope

Mine came in a white slightly see through paper envelope. Looks like wax paper. I thought it was finally smart of them to switch to packing you can actually see the SIM card and not toss it out for those who don't know.

i'll probably try again later. but the customer service rep told me that i'd have to buy a SIM in a store. She also said that I can use an old metropcs SIM if I had one?

Yep, both my Metro A54 and Nokia G400 (bought in May and early June) came with the SIM in the opaque white envelope.

I can't get orders through anymore. I only got Moto Stylus 2022 back in February and A54 2 weeks ago. I tried using the same address and my partner's name/credit card, as well as my work address and my own credit card (not used previously at Metro). I always get "you're security is important too us, please call".

Any tips on how to get around it?
are you using a vpn?

It is fun. I get the chance to play with the latest phones.
If you want to do the same, keep your eyes on Samsung trade-in deals, Bestbuy trade-in deals. The latest one was Spectrum deal. You got at least $600 trade-in credit for Samsung S23 phone. The A54 worth $797. Basically you're paying $3 for the new S23. Unfortunately this deal expired a weeks ago.
Do you have to wait the 6 months for it to unlock before you can trade it in (or sell it)?

You can trade-in anytime. Locked or unlocked dont matter.

To sell, you have to make sure your phone is not tight to your metro acct. you can do 1 of the following to untight the phone:
1. port out to cancel line
2. wait 60 days without payment (you paid 1st month and dont pay 2nd month)
3. swap a device from your acct.

Metro recently (within the last few months) started asking identification questions on online orders. They're matching name + address from some database and asks you questions about previous addresses, people you know, car you drove, things like that. End of last year you could get multiple orders through to the same address no problem.

Their policy is 2 orders per household but it's not clear that limit applies to what timeframe. 2 per year, 6 months, etc who knows. From my personal experience, new device, VPN, new internet connection, new credit card etc doesn't get around it. It's shipping address based (billing address can be whatever) and they verify that the name you used on the order matches with the address. After failing my latest order multiple times I just had a friend order it for me with his address and it went through fine.

On 5/4/23, I ordered a Metro A54 using Firefox, my name, email & credit card, home street address, order went through and had to answer the ID verification questions. Received phone on 5/8/23 and activated it.
On 5/28/23, I ordered a Metro Nokia G400 using Chrome on same laptop, my wife's name, email & credit card, same home street address, order went through but did not have to answer the ID verification questions. Received phone on 6/1/23 and activated it. Don't know why no ID verification questions were asked, maybe because the order for the Nokia was only $40 vs $90 + tax for the A54.

I was a bit late to the Metro game. My address had 5 orders from end of December to end of February. I don't remember any of these orders asking for identification but they were all free phones with the $40 plan. No Metro phone was of interest to me until the Galaxy A54 and P6a and I couldn't order either of these to my address. I got both phones though by ordering to two other addresses, not my own. Both asked for ID verification. I guess the address ban will lift at some point but not sure when.
