Don't look at someone's phone and judge them if they are rich or poor. There are rich people with old cheap phones and there are definitely "poor" people who paid +$1k on phones and paying high monthly plans that they really shouldn't be.

Ummm. You do realize that the phone works during the first months with calls, texts and data? Some people would be happy to use unlimited data in that first month. All those apps, games, camera, etc. work with or without service. Lot of people use multiple phones. I do. Lot of people have lots of wifi outside their home especially with some cable service they may use.

* I have a Pixel 6a and I do like it but it has its cons. The battery life isn't that good and the screen is little bit too small at 6.1" for my liking for browsing chrome/youtube so I prefer to use my other larger screen phones with the big battery at home or my Samsung tablet at home when browsing chrome or YouTube. For me to use my Pixel 6a for browsing chrome/YouTube is wasting battery on a phone that already doesn't have solid battery life and just not that good of experience on 6.1" screen vs my larger screen phones. Answer? Large screen phone with solid battery or tablet.

* 6 months goes by quicker than you think. People aren't like upgrading their phones after every 2 months and it is "so needed" to upgraded from their phone. Patience is a virtue especially for Slickdealers who know a good bang for the buck phone deal or knows money saving tips on deals.

for those new to M deals.

suggest

read wiki

lots of good info

trust me

here is sample:

To have the phone unlock automatically in 180 days (6 months)

You need to have activated the phone 180 days ago.
You do not. repeat do NOT have to pay for service 180 days

the above has been true for most every metro deal in the past.
both apple and android

Most people get the 1 month service.
Then simply place phone in a drawer .
wait 6 months.

The sim can be left in phone or stored safely.
It does not matter, as long as you DO NOT THROW AWAY THE SIM until you get a confirmed unlock

Phone should/will unlock in ~180 days + 6 -10 days.

best chance of success as follows:
During the ~6 month wait.
YOU can use as wifi device.
keep sim in phone.
when getting near the 180 day , have phone connected to wi-fi.
Try to unlock the device, once 1-2 days from day 180 onwards.

- None of us knows when Metro is going to close this unofficial loophole, .
-However this has been in effect with Metro phone deals for last ~4-5 years

Exercise your own judgement,

Received the phone yesterday and have been testing it today. Pretty solid overall, scrolling is smooth and the battery went from 100% to 81% after a solid 90 minutes of use. This feels like the discount store version of an S23.
Welcome to the party. As they say better late than never. However, I probably would've gotten the fe23 instead of this one if I were to purchase a phone today or yesterday

But FE23 was available for $150 when you ordered A54....any reason why you're switching your preference....only processor is different and no microsd in fe23...checkout comparison on technical ground

i think u may have me confused with some one else.

i bought my a54 5.9 months ago for 94
the 21fe was available then for 150
at the time i didnt think the 21fe was worth the extra 50

fast forward to ~8 days ago.
the 23fe was available at 150.
i bought one and received it yesterday.

i felt the 50 difference between a54 and 23fe is worth it.
and after having it 1 day, i think it certainly is.

pro impt to me: better camera, processor, memory,
pro not imp to me: dex, wireless charging, reverses wireless
im sure there are other pros

yes i loose on battery (a bit smaller) and sd card, but neither of those 2 are important to me.

i plan to use as daily driver.
first the a54 which will UL in ~6 days.
use that for ~6month

then the 23fe use that in ~6m when it UL's

sell the a54, (at the time will be ~1 year old) and get minimum $150 for it

Last time metro blocked one order as I failed to answer one of the security questions (why torture us asking our past)...hopefully second time a charm

Would suggest you move the rest of this discussion over to this thread linked above. There you will find lots of good information on how to get this phone. As usual the updated wiki that I posted there offers lots of tricks and tips. See you there

OK, that' something new for me, after 9pm, it's supposed that my a54 should unlock. But it just gave me a new error instead of that "37 error", now it's "Couldn't unlock you phone An error has occurred (146)"

now that the A54 is unlocked....does this mean that it will work on all other carriers....or just GSM carriers?

The Metro A54 is on AT&T whitelist as of Sept '23 (was not back in May '23), and of course on T-mo, and MVNOs that use T-mo. It has most 4G/LTE bands and some 5G bands used by Verizon/Visible but is not on their whitelist. So you can't legitimately activate a new Verizon/Visible SIM with its IMEI, but if you put in an active Verizon/Visible SIM it will work.

I reset the phone but it still boots up witht the metro splash screen. If it really bothers me, I will look into flashing it with a non-Metro firmware, but I'll leave it alone for now.
When you reset, did it get rid of the bloat? Also how did you reset?

Mine unlocked, debating if I need to do anything before I switch it to another carrier

I did a reset by going to Settings-->About Phone-->scroll down to the bottom and select Reset, telling it to clear everything. After the reset, the Metro splash screen still displays at boot-up and the Metro apps are still there. The splash screen doesn't bother me, and I disabled most of the Metro apps. I've read that you can get rid of the splash screen and the Metro apps by flashing the phone's firmware to the U1 (Factory Unlocked) version. I don't have time and inclination to do that at the moment.

Are you trying to accedss Internet on the phone using WiFi or Data? Using Data needs a correct APN, but using WiFi doesn't need any APN.
