got it, thanks. but how do i determine which implementation to pick? can you suggest suitable ssd and enclosure to track? i described the studio and drive's envisioned usage in my previous post if that helps narrow it down.
ACASIS with good PCIe v4 drive is usually the good choice. Not the cheapest one but still much cheaper than buying high-capacity Studio model. I am using it with 4TB WD SN850X and getting ~3GB/sec transfer rate with M1 Max MacBook Pro.

This thread [macrumors.com] has some info.

What's the best non-SSD external HD? 8TB or higher maybe for cold storage/backup... Is Western Digital still the way to go?

If that's what you care about then great. Just don't pretend like you can't do your job (or watch YouTube videos, whatever it is you do with your shiny new machine) on a discontinued model.
You can be race car driver even if you drive a 200hp car at a Nascar race but you're not gonna win. You may finish the race but who wants to be left behind if they can help it?

Funny you think we're just running YT all day on your computers. Are you ok? Need a hug? Need a shiny new computer?

I can make money on a crappy ass computer but I can get it done faster with a shiny new computer and I'll get paid more (if I decide to do more since I have more time) or I can just take the extra time and enjoy life.

Time is money. The faster you can get stuff done on the computer (automated even) the more time you have for yourself to do whatever. Even if it's to sit on the porch and do absolutely nothing and enjoy the sunset.

but thank you for knowing everything about everything.

Bless you lol

Regardless of the brand - would you trust the single drive to hold all your backups? If not - you'll need to think about raid-based solution.

Instead of 1x 16GB, my cheaper solution is 2x 8GB. And then use Microsoft power toy to replicate. I have a few WD already. Maybe I should so raid.

Dell UltraSharp U2723QE is nice unless you set on the Apple display.
I have two with the calibration done. None were off by very much.
Thanks. It's on the short list. Another one I am thinking is Benq.

Any idea if this is why the Mac mini 2 looks odd on my monitor? I know the Mac mini 2 also has the same hdmi 2.0. I bought one to use with my LG 42" OLED but ended up returning it because everything looks off. When connected to my windows PC running a 3080, everything looks sharp and great. But switched to the Mac mini 2, I felt like I was getting eye fatigue. Couldn't really figure out why as the resolution is the same.
You need to edit the TV's EDID to force 4:4:4 RGB color mode. I had the same problem with a MacBook and a LG OLED. Text looks awesome after you do that.

This would be trivial for apple to fix but I think they deliberately leave this bug in to try to force you to buy their overpriced monitors.

Do you use PC as well for trading or all Mac? Also, what are LLMs?

I am considering sidering a mixed PC and mac environment for trading and gaming.
I have a PC that I prefer to use for running Interactive Brokers on Linux due to its better performance. Although there is a version of Linux that can run natively on an ARM Mac, I have not yet tried it, and it still seems like a beta product. There is no Linux ARM version of Interactive Brokers) or TOS so I'm not in a rush to jump through hoops to install it.. LLMs are Large Language Models, such as ChatGPT by OpenAI and integrated into Bing by Microsoft, were also released by Facebook (now Meta) in March as open-source software that can be downloaded and run locally. Although I purchased the computer two years ago primarily for gaming, I hardly play games on it, despite it having a decent 3080 graphics card.

So you are running your brokerage apps primarily on MacOS, aside from IB on Linux/PC due to better performance. I take it most of the apps and other programs you need will work well on MacOS for you.

Do you find the Linux equivalents mostly are generally not as good as the Mac versions?

Wish this had been the launch price and would have gotten one instead of a base M1. The $2k was a bit over budget since I didn't have any experience with the M1 systems at the time. Am definitely still considering a future Studio or picking up an M1 Max or Ultra within the next couple years secondhand.

You can use a $30 USB-C to HDMI 2.1 Cable Matters adapter to get 4K120 from any M1 Mac.
This is false. None of the USB-C to HDMI 2.1 adapters allow 4K 120Hz on Macs due to software limitations.

Agreed. If you live in a busy area and have the available jobs lined up.

I don't think that commenter understood what was involved. I remember having to wait all night just for HD files to render…

I've always used PCs I build, but I certainly "get it" about Macs. PCs are great -when they work…

There is no M2 pro version of this computer - the studio. I gather you have a mac mini. Maybe a slight advantage on some CPU tasks, but much less GPU. Also, the studio has More USB-C ports including front, which has SD card reader. M2 pro mini is nice when upgraded, to match RAM etc but way overpriced.
Yes, I have the Mini, which can be "upgraded" to a semi-studio with a matching dock (several more ports, including the SD card reader). Both start with 4 thunderbolts so, there is more or less match between them.

As for CPU/GPU, yes:
https://nanoreview.net/en/cpu-com...ple-m1-max

The M2 Pro CPU almost consistently beats the Studio's M1 Max. However as both of us said the GPU is lacking.

So there are tradeoffs in each way (HDMI2.1 vs built-in SD card reader, better CPU or better GPU). However 32 GB and faster RAM is a definite advantage for the Studio.

Not false, very true. I get 4K120 (even at 10bit RGB 4:4:4!) from my Mac Studio, and so do hundreds of others. You can read all about it here:
